I just wonder if he even had permit..
You are correct about bringing a ld. right through Houston, unless like stated prior, he was del. downtown.

More than likely he either misread the permit or was trying to bootleg it out of town.

With the crappy job done on the banner, and sticking an OD load where no other OD load has been before, my guess is he's never pulled an OD before, and let the GPS do the routing.

OR he was bootlegging and knew the Houston DOT work the east side of the 610 loop. But if you're going to bootleg around Houston, you go to the west side of the loop and hope and pray that no 4 wheelers hit you. The load isn't heavy, and the permits wouldn't be terribly expensive on that piece, so it wouldn't be worth the gray hair to attempt a bootleg, so my guess is he followed his GPS.

doesnt really matter, though. He is still in a world of trouble.

You can make a height stick for less then $30 and you would be surprised how many guys dont keep a tape measure with them.

    Virginia....

Stopped at that new Petro at the 205 overnight with an 11'6 wide. Got up the next morning and started rolling. Saw a sign about 81 being shut down. Called the state and tried to get the permit amended to be routed another way. "Nope. The local law enforcement will have a detour set up." It was shut down both ways. Hazmat spill. They routed everyone, all oversized, across US11. It took 10 hours to reach Tennessee.

Usually, I will park and wait it out. But I didn't know how long it would take to clean up a hazmat spill (the one I had at the TA in Beaumont took 30 hours...and it was 300 gallons. Then again, that was 20 years ago).

10 hours. 10 hours to run US11 200 miles. At least the Davy Crockett still has good food.

    He was probably lost.
FYI. If you make a wrong turn, get your laptop or phone and google earth street view your potential escape route. You can zoom in on the bridge height if its marked or use references like cars or trucks to eyeball if its obviously too low. Even if you are sitting in the middle blocking lanes, street view it because that 15 minutes may save you from buying a D-10... Or a bridge.

Street view saved my rear a few times.
