Garmin has one coming out that is instrument certified and works with your auto pilot system... oh wait this is the Truckers Forum and we don't have auto pilot yet...lol. Rand McNally has some nice products but I'm switching to Garmin because they have a better background and support for GPS systems. I really hope that google would come up with a trucker friendly nav system. That would be the best all around.

I use Streets & Trips with the Truck Stops Plus add-on Template and Google Earth, which is a free download. I configure my company's truck routes in Streets & Trips utilizing the Truck Stops Plus add-on Template, which involves for the most part only adding my fuel stop locations as stops. Then I look my shippers and receivers up in Google Earth. Place a pushpin in the driver entranceways of my shippers and receivers in Google Earth. Then access the properties of that pushpin to copy and paste its GPS coordinates into Streets & Trips so that Streets & Trips provides me turn-by-turn directions directly into the driver entranceways of my Shippers and Receivers. Finally, I save all my shippers and receivers setup in this way as I go in my Truck Stops Plus add-on Template for when I will go back to them again in the future. In fact, I have all the driver entranceways to all my company terminals and drop lots already setup and saved in my Truck Stops Plus add-on Template as well. Of course, all of this is accessed on my 17-inch laptop screen and I never have to call my shippers and receivers for directions. It works great for me.
Sexybuilt Thanks this. -
I have been using Streets/Trips on the laptop but recently upgraded to RM's TND 520. I must say it's a very nice tool. So far (4 loads) it's been very accurate. Good advance warning on weigh stations, sharp curves, speed zone etc. It also lets me know if there's a 2nd quick turn (turn right on ramp then immeadiately turn right on maple st).
I still use the laptop for "planning", but the 520 as the enroute tool. And that last guy's right: Google Earth is a heck of a handy tool!
PS: the 520/720 are the same. 5"screen vs 7" screen. -
