That is so neat, Etosha! I wonder what s/he hauls...
-
Me too! Probably some ultraheavy oilfield equipment or something similar!
-
Could be a truck destined for a concrete pumper body, most of those have several axles. Also could be for a super-heavy duty workplace, like oilfield hauling-the truck is a Western Star, btw, and they have been bragging (in their ads) about how they make 'Serious Trucks'. That certainly is a serious truck!
-
Yes, a concrete mixer truck... hadnt thought of it... as well as a bed truck. There are bi front and tri rear axle bed trucks out there already, same as the concrete mixers. Good point!
Although the one in the video clip has a fifth wheel... -
Wallbanger is correct it is a WesternStar and they do make some serious trucks, I own one and it is solid. That truck there is designed for an oil-field I do believe with the multiple steer axles but could be used in a wide veriaty of heavy uses. They had a secial order one at the Western Star in Grand Rapids a while back that was being picked up when I showed up and the sales rep said they were designed for oil fields but that particular one was being turned into a cementer pumper.

I seen one at the MID AMERICAN TRUCK SHOW last year. It was huge lookin!
-
WAY COOL !!!
-
What kind of Fuel mileage can one expect with a truck like that? That does look like it can take a serious beating.

Hey Etosha- I saw the fifth wheel too, but it looks like a non air-slide, 'simple' fifth wheel, and that can be removed easily enough. Or it could be waiting to have a folding crane added to the truck, and then it could pull a trailer- maybe for installing telephone poles.
KH- you ain't gonna get great fuel mileage, what with all those axles, and the big flotation tires on all the steers. Probably in the 3-4 mpg range!
