If you didn`t count the freight, then always mark SLC on your BOL. Do not ever let the responsibility be put in your lap if it isn`t yours. That's just asking for potential claims. As for sitting around, just file for your detention. If so called broker says there is nothing he can do, then he is obviously lying . I have several customers setup and everyone of them has a detention clause in their contract. Usually standard 1st 2 hrs free anything after $45-$60 an hr.

Welcome to TTR, Kyle.
Giggles the Original Thanks this. -
MANY shippers will not let you sign SLC, on top of that ALOT will not even verify the seal and the dummy guards, even though they check the seal, will not sign "seal intact"!!
-
You are correct, before I got into the brokering business I worked as a Traffic/Shipping Mgr for a tool box manufacturer. We always frowned upon drivers who did this, but would never think about unloading the truck or refusing them the load. They were there and loaded, we needed them more than they needed us at that point.

Sounds like the van/reefer end of trucking hasn't changed at all in the 25 years I've been in this industry. I remember back in the early 90's that waiting to load and unload was an all day event. That was common and from all of the drivers I speak with, it still is common. If I got unloaded and re-loaded within 8 hours, that was considered fast. This is main reason I switched to pulling a skateboard. Might want to consider the same MNdriver.

I will mark the BOL, "Driver not allowed to count or load"jbatmick Thanks this. -
When I get loaded and on my way I call the reciever and confirm my appointment time...if you did this your broker would have time to solve this...you have to do more than hold the steering wheel. As for my advise to brokers, take care of the ones that take of you...repeat business is a sign your doing it right. When your loaded and call your broker tell him/her then that you didn't get to count you load before you leave... the sooner problems are communicated the sooner resolved at no cost to anyone.

Pick up you load at 4:30 pm. Last load for the shipper.
Consignee leaves at 4:30.
Tot driving distance is 230ish miles.
You appointment is at 7:00 am next morning.
When are you supposed to confirm with consignee? -
you get a load conformation before you load with the name and address of where your going. From that you can get a phone number and call the reciever to confirm... been doing this and never had a problem.
