just like it says, not too long ago in north Carolina off of I-95 near tar heel had a empty flatbed pass me. nothing unusual, but he got about a half mile ahead of me and an old dead pine toppled over. it was too late for if he even had a chance to notice, very sudden. watched it fall and the tip top of the tree fell right across the half point of his 48' flatdeck. the force shattered the trailer in two. scared the hell outta me. lucky it was his trailer, thank god he wasn't about a half second slower or it would have crushed him in the cab of his truck.

Dang, that's crazy...
Did you take any pics? -
no, never thought of it. was too busy trying keep traffic from running into the whole scene till police could get there. they took my statement and sent me down the road. I sure hate to be the owner of that trailer though. it was one of the newer infinity flatbeds. getting pulled by an OLD beat up pete 359. looked like an 1988 model.
Boka Thanks this. -
Not so long ago it was in a forest. Then one day the other trees went away and houses, stores and banks grew in the empty spaces but provided no wind break for the lonesome pine.
And so it goes . . . -
did it make a sound?
-
im fairly sure it did, but I was a half mile back with radio blazing and diesel roaring. didn't hear a peep till I got there, then all I heard was the driver freaking out. and the areas around tar heel are pretty dense with woods. leaving the Smithfield there turned off nc87 onto nc20 headed back to i95. runs through st paul nc.

An 88 359??
-
I kept thinking they changed to the 379 in 88 might have been 89 when the 379 came out can't remember for sure. Can't say I'd blame the guy for still driving the old girl though. They don't build them like they used too that's for sure. Just drove a 2010 cascadia with 86k on it. That thing had more squeeks and creeks than my old 2000 long hood does. Didn't pull worth #### either 10spd and I was dropping gears on hills empty ran 50 miles in 9th gear at 60 soon as I'd hit the big hole after I loaded it just stated slowing down. Was horribly unimpressed with that truck. Granted I'm used to 550 or 600 horse 1850 and 2050 torque and 18 gears but I would've thought it would've pulled better than that. S.O.B. had its nuts cut too 66mph not profitable when your running hopper and trying to beat the rush to unload.

2nd time I've heard of that. Near Seattle, a branch broke off one of those old growth pines on a country 2 lane. Toyota 4Runner, landed in the back seat area. My friend used an engine hoist and the eeight of the suv itself to pull out the major wrinkles. Busted out the windshield and rear seat glass.
One second earlier would've hit the driver.
Sonetimes near misses are ok.

Very observant. 87 was the last year.
