Heres an idea: How about we put webcams in dispatch, their break room and in their living rooms so we can make sure they aren't doing anything we disapprove of.
Just because I don't approve of the cameras doesn't mean I am doing anything wrong. By that logic, the fact that I own guns would make me paranoid and/or a terrorist.

OH CRAP LB IS A TERRORIST!!! i am pretty sure the inside camera is for catching what happens before single vehicle accidents. like did the driver fall asleep or did the driver have a medical problem which caused the crash.
L.B. Thanks this. -
The "arrogance of ignorance" comes to mind or "empty barrels make the most noise" or "best to keep your mouth shut and thought stupid then to open it and remove all doubt".
The drivecam can not be remotely triggered to save recordings at the will of anyone not in the truck cab.
It does not contain the hardware required for this to be an option.
It also saves far less recordings then you would imagine.
I have drivers that get less then one download every 6 months.
These cameras are good for the driver and ignorance , self importance and paranoia aside this is obvious.
Rumble strips don't trigger them but driving up a curb will.
They do however show up idiots and this is good for all.
As for the points system , this is a joke and where the resistance should be aimed at.
This comes down to the people at Drivecam who review downloaded clips.
They are obviously bored , have little no experience and this shows up in their generic comments.
They then apply points against a driver.
These points are more often then not based on some stupid policies.
The policies are the issue not the camera.
Talk about shooting the messenger.
It is 100% accurate to state that if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear.
Overall they just coerce people to be more responsible.Cooper09 Thanks this. -
I may agree with the majority of your post, but this line is what I have issue with.
This is exactly the same thing a cop says when you tell them you not consent to search of your car when you are pulled over.
Trust me, I have nothing to hide, but that doesn't mean I ever consent to a warrantless, unjustified search of my personal belongings because someone wants to flex their authority. And the constitution agrees with me on this!
I know I sound a bit paranoid, but I've dealt with enough a hole cops or others with positions of authority in my time that I don't just cave when ever someone wants to flex it on me.900,000-tons-of-steel, The Challenger and Old - School Thank this. -
Your vehicle can be searched without consent if said officer can prove "reasonable suspicion" along with probable cause. It is considered a mobile unit and can be moved at anytime. I do agree that there are officers who over exert their authority. You have a right to privacy up to a point where there is no suspicious activity involved. By not consenting, you are just making your time with the officer that much longer and even less enjoyable. I always have consented just to be able to smirk while they're doing so and making them more humble in the end.
-
On the other end of that, I never consent and have never been searched. Just because you don't consent doesn't mean they have the right to hold you until you do consent. When I have encountered resistance from an arrogant officer, I request the shift supervisor to be present. I've even called 911 on a cop before. The Challenger, Old - School and 900,000-tons-of-steel Thank this.

I should qualify this statement with.
If those at the company don't simply subscribe to the idiotic points system that incompetent review staff apply to drivers.
If clips are reviewed by competent people with real world experience.
If the company has reasonable policies ,then I stick to my statement. -
Sorry dude but I've never met a cop that was humble just because they never found anything. What they were thinking was that you got away with it this time. Maybe next time. It sounds like you were searched multiple times. I wonder what the reasonable suspicion or probable cause was in your case. I would never let someone searce my car without a warrant even if it meant me sitting there for hours while they went and got one. Anyone that is willing to give up their rights as easy as that makes me wonder what else they would let the government do without proper authority. I left law enforcement because it just wasnt for me and I can tell you that the vast majority of them are good and are there to do the job their paid to do but you will always have those few that have that God like attitude that they think they can do what ever they want.L.B., 900,000-tons-of-steel, The Challenger and 1 other person Thank this.

I completely agree with Old School. If I haven't done anything, you don't have the right to search me, seize my property, or detain me. If they choose to arrest me, they better have reason because I will exercise my rights to pursue further action in court.

When a driver of mine makes a mistake we don't even inform them if we can see it is a honest fairly innocent random occurrence.
If it is because of a bad habit we notify and show them the clip.
If it is negligence or dangerous we cite it in their file and they get warned.
I only have 40 drivers but I have never fired one because of evidence of this nature.
There are 2 drivers that are on final warnings.
One for repeated tailgating resulting in harsh braking.
He has been a driver for 25 years and yet after we paired him with a safety award winning driver with 40 years experience for a few days and he has improved 1000%.
With out the Drivecam we have only found this out the hard way.
The second is new , and is on a round trip that keep them out 3 weeks at a time.
On 2 of the 4 trips he has completed we have had him exceeding the speed limit by almost 20mph on some sections of road where the camera was triggered by some uneven road conditions.
Unless he can mend this unacceptable behavior he is gone.
There are 2 possible out comes , he learns which is good for all or he gets fired.
Will that be the Drivecams fault?Dinomite Thanks this.
