I need some help from you"ll experienced "guys". My husband just went through orientation was with a trainer but he just left to go to another company. The new trainer really didn't help him and he ended up driving as a team driver. ( He has less than 6 mths driving gravel & tanker). After approx 3-4 weeks and being exhausted they give him another driving test. He back crooked ( trainer let him back 2 times) and rubbed the back tire on the curb. The instructor said that they needed to part ways. He did ask for more time training. The instructor said that they should never put him in a team position. My question is this, is this normal? Will this company report him? or should we just never say he drove for them. Any info helps guys. He's really upset about driving at this point.

He rubbed a back tire on a curb. That's normal and no damage was done. But you do need to put this company on your application. You possible employer will find out.It is normal driving as a team although it isn't right, most companies make it a team operation after about a week of training. If this company uses dac then yes they will report him but don't think its going to be too major that other companies will think twice about hiring your husband.Tell him to cheer up its not the end of the world. What he went thru sounds minor compared to other stories I have read.

Will this company report him? I doubt there's really anything to report other than he was employed there. However if they let him go, there will have to be something in his jacket that says why. (non proficient following training?) I feel for you both and I don't really know what to tell you. Driving is not for everyone. Some simply don't have the aptitude for driving, backing, etc, no matter how much or the quality of training.

Some will say ANYONE can be trained to back a truck well given time. Perhaps, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. And the hardest thing a trainer can do is tell someone they are not able to "make the grade" and be confident they did everything they could to train correctly and effectively. At this point, if he's sure he wants to continue to try, he can apply elsewhere and be honest with future outfits about the situation. But you say he had six months driving gravel and tanker? Did something happen there we're not privy to? Usually in 6 months solo, you either pick up the skills or tear something up and get fired. I wish you guys the best.

I tell every driver the same thing when they start out.

You are Licensed by the Government and they say "you are good to go". That means you don't need anymore training, especially from a trainer that can make arbitrary decisions.

Go work for a smaller outfit and avoid the big carriers. Most trainers at these facilities are not much more experienced than the guy they're supposed to be training.
Big carriers say "Don't worry we will give you the training you need,we have a great program".
What they're really saying is "We need you to run Team and will only pay you a barely livable wage because afterall we are doing you a favour".

WHEN YOU SIGN ON WITH ANY COMPANY THAT SAYS "TRAIN" THEY MEAN "TEAM".

AT TMC were not on team status untill after 2 weeks int he truck. Even after the 2 weeks I (a trainer) make sure im in the jump seat when ever my trainee is not on the highway.

At USX we can't team until the trainee has 75 hours of driving time. Then teaming is an option. It is not forced.

As for backing, that is the hardest thing to teach a person. Every backing situation is different. The trainee has to "get it" in order to get good at it. I don't expect my trainees to become backing experts in the 2-3 week training period. I do expect them to eventually get it into the hole or against the dock without hitting anything. You are saying your husband also hit a curb. Assuming that was during the road test portion, yes, many places automatically fail someone for hitting a curb.

He will have to mention being with that company on his applications but most starter companies will hire him anyway. I know a guy who trained with four different training companies. He couldn't do the job but that's a whole other story...LOL

I really got a good laugh from this. Obviously you have never trained someone with a newly minted CDL. I had one guy who could not drive a manual transmission. He actually tried to run stop signs to avoid having to shift.

Glad I could help you"ll get a chuckle. He didn't run over the curb he said he just rubbed it with the tire. that's why I was wondering why they would let him go after such a minor infraction. He said his trainer slept while he drove and he didn't get much training on the qualicomm (think I spelled it right) . Any how after this bad experience he now doesn't want to drive at all. He said that his trainer only wanted the money. Funniest part was when he told the trainer " Man take a shower you stink".

Not true. Roehl, does not allow that, and with the elogs they can monitor. Yes I know you can cheat it, but it's harder to do.
