Looking to gain more information on this subject. Will I be able to book loads with shipper or will I need broker's license?
Do you need broker's license if you have own authority?

If you transport the loads with trucks under your authority you are not brokering . Use another carrier and you're brokeringchadwicktrucking Thanks this.

yelp, u can find your own loads but soon as you get the load and let another carrier carry that load at that point you are a broker.
chadwicktrucking Thanks this. -
OK...so along those same lines suppose you have your own operating authority and you're driving your only truck. You book the load directly with the shipper, and are 3/4 of the way to the destination when you experience a major breakdown. Would you need broker authority to hire another carrier to repower the load for you in order to make sure the load delivered on time to keep your customer happy?
-
Theoreticaly yes, but I would just rent a truck while mine was being towed.
-
The best thing to do would be to contact the shipper and let them find another carrier . No way they're going to be happy anyway . How long do you think it would take to repower the load anyway ?
-
A carrier with its own customer could send the shipment with another carrier. That's called interlining and no broker authority is needed. However, that is about to change and interlining will no longer be legal under MAP 21.

Might go to FMCSA MAP-21 FAQ. Interlining still will not require a broker license.http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/about/other/faq/faqs.aspx?faqtype=28&faqtypesub=1100#question2Ed MacLane, chadwicktrucking and donkeyshow72 Thank this.

any clue how ifta is recorded on interlining? do they fall under your authority in the sense of reporting ifta to initial carrier of freight?
