Pre-Hires should be better stated as "Pre-Approvals." Yes, you can obtain these despite not being or beginning in a school. Its just a form of you getting in contact with a carrier company. Pre-Approvals won't go too deep as they don't check criminal background, in some cases, driving records, employment history verification and DOT medical exams. Although good to obtain, Pre-Approvals are just pre-approvals.

Pre hires are only as good as your application.
If you lie or omit things on your application, they are worthless.mje Thanks this. -

dhtrucker, if you can, why not research all of the local to you community colleges that offer CDL training. I'm sure being in the LA basin you will be able to find more than 1or 2. Most all of them offer a job placement service and if they are state/federally funded then financial assistance would be a given. Hope this helps you out.....Good Luck.

I recommend mission hill truck school in modesto, ca. you get very little instruction time and you learn just enough to kill a schoolbus full of children with the 80,000 pound death trap
