My details about these new rules are still fuzzy and need to read up a link would be appreciated. Also I overheard that we are back down to 10 hrs drive? I'm going in e-logs in 1 month I'm sure I will struggle with this New rules for a little bit may be its time to go local finally who knows.
Is this new 34hr rule reset every week going to ruin your life

The part I don't like is the consecutive 1am to 5am periods. If you 'start' your reset at 2am you'd have to wait almost a full extra 24 just to satisfy the consecutive 1am to 5am periods. That doesn't make sense, especially if a driver tends toward night hours. I do think the mandatory 30 off-duty break within 8 hour duty cycle is reasonable and doable. Personally don't see that as a big inconvenience and perhaps a good idea. But, with no actual experience to speak of my opinion on this doesn't hold much weight, not even to me.

You just cannot make up for the lousy pay by working insane amount of hours. Remember, working 70hrs+ as a truck driver will "earn" you a big hemorrhoid, early death and little else, even if you are an OO. Drivers are human beings too, they should bring an average salary for working 40hrs week, just the way normal people do. If we don't (and proud of that) we should check our heads or admit that we are genetic slaves and deserve every penny we don't get. Government and safety advocates should crackdown on work hours because drivers accepted their sweatshop work conditions and miserable life outcomes no sane human being should ever consider. Think, you, as a driver, virtually have no life, work enormous amount of hours and what you have to show for that except beer gut and enlarged prostate?

While the 34 reset may be an issue with some, it is wise to keep things in perspective. From 1938 to 2003, THERE WAS NO RESET OPTION! And that is what it is, an option. For all of those years, we only had the recap of hours to work with, just like we still have now. As for a 30 minute break? Might affect some, but a good driver will be able to pull it off quite easily and also use it to their advantage. Since is has some flexibility to it, in that it doesn't have to be taken right at the 8th hr on duty or driving, and can be applied somewhat creatively if one is on paper log, it may not be all that big of a deal and a year from now may hardly be discussed.
It has been stated before, but just doesn't seem to sink in with most folks, if the reset option is critical to you making a living, then you are definately in the wrong job. Many of us did fairly well before the reset ever became a part of the HOS. So it would cause me to wonder why it is so critical to making a living now. If it is that critical, one needs to reevaluate what they are doing and maybe find something else.scythe08, Cranky Yankee, Sublime and 4 others Thank this. -
I'm company, and I've burned my 70 in 5 days (after all, 70/5=14) many, many more times than not. Multi stop Northeast Metro will do that. That's not running hard, either.

But here's the thing, some have built their business in the years that the reset has been in place as it currently is and included that in their business model. There are several companies here that run trips from SLC to LA and use the reset to give their guys a reset at home on the weekend. They are not going to be able to do that now because the recap will not give them the hours needed for their routes. Was it a smart move to put all their eggs in one basket, probably not. I honestly thought they would never touch the reset and that is ignorance on my part.
I had a point to make here and I'll be ###### if I just forgot it.......going to bed now -

The 34 I don't really see being an issue.
The 30 off duty in 8hrs. I easily do that everyday. No more excuses for drivers not to take showers or go for a walkCowpie1 Thanks this.
