I have a hard decision here guys. Both have terminals in my home state. Both pay well (Crete pays .01 more). Both get my home weekly. Both have decent equipment.
I guess the only downside I can think of is that Averitt makes you shave and wear a uniform. Would that be a deal breaker? Who would you chose?
I've worked hard to keep my nose and record clean so being able to chose between two good carriers is humbling. Being in my Twenties, I'm looking for a home, though I would like to down the line get into local and be home daily (That's where Averitt has the advantage...they actually have a local fleet in my state, but I hear it's kind of a pain transferring over from truckload to LTL).
I just don't know who to pick. So I decided to come to my favorite Trucker forum and ask some oldheads what they think. Please try and be as unbiased as possible. I know we truckers like to gas it up when giving opinions, but on this one I'm looking for some real constructive advice.
Thanks guys![]()

if they control your clothes and your face, how much more will you let them control?RubberDuckie Thanks this. -
Good point, but hey man...I've been out of work for about 5 weeks now after leaving my former job (on good terms. Returned truck and whatnot, gave notice, blah blah).
At this point, and given the intense PITA this job search deal has been, what with faxing loads of paperwork and companies blowing my cell phone to bits with calls, I'm just ready to work man. I honestly couldn't care less, at the moment, about my beard.
...a few months from now however, it may start to irk me. MAY. -
dont know anything about averitt..but had a good freind go to crete a couple tears back he loved it for about 3 months then his miles kept getting less and less he was willing to stay out but he wasnt making money not getting miles ..I havw another goog freind thats doing intermodal for them now to start he was doing ok then it started getting slower and slower he sat at home one entire week hes back working now but its very slow and they keep hiring more guys?!..as far as uniforms and shaving I have to wear uniforms and I love it, ruin their clothes not mine..far as shaving we can have beards but some customers require you to be shaved to enter plants..yea it sucks if I have to shave in a gaurdhouse restroom to enter a plant but hey it will grow back...good luck choosing..

whats wrong with wearing a uniform? It's unbelievable to see what some drivers wear coming into our dispatch office, a place of business.. I thought we were all supposed to be "professional drivers"?Marlin46 and rickybobby Thank this.

you're probably the guy with the jogging pants on wearing sandals ( no socks )
we all wear a uniform of one sort or another, whether it be a suit, overalls, or a denim jacket with a " born to lose " tattoo on his forearm. get use to it. bottomline is you are there to pay your bills and see your loved ones. good luck to you. l.s. go with sveritt. -
