Anyone hear about a driver that lost a 470 excavator on I-70 today?

The outriggers we are referring to are pieces that are used to extend the width of the bed of an RGN. The most common form is the swing out (see below). It is a hinged bracket that rotates out from the outer beam on each side of an RGN. Once they are swung out, planks are placed on top of them making the deck of the trailer wider. They are most commonly used for hauling equipment where less than 50% of the tire or track would be on the bed of a standard trailer. They also make slide out which slide out of the beam of the trailer. These are most commonly used for relatively lightweight and relatively tall wheeled units like combines or sprayers. We use clip on outriggers which are kind of a jerry rigged version, but we wanted a rub rail on our RGNs. We haul far more steel on them than units that require outriggers.

I may be mistaken but I think this is an old photo from an incident in Kansas. Almost cut the bridge all the way thru.:biggrin_2551:

Yeah I know, just putting some info with the pic coz somebody was bound to ask...:yes2557: They had to search for the truck on this one as well coz it wasn't onsite when the Po Po came out to investigate. You would think they had to tear down and rebuild the whole bridge but they were able to splice in a repair and call it good. :biggrin_255:

Never have been able to find out who lost the one on 70.
Saw a Wyle trk. Fri. at the T/A here in Dallas Pike moving around the trkstp. with a 470. No chains on the ld.
He came off the scales so I take it he had to move the ld. as his weights might of not been right.. Plus no outriggers on the ld. So here he is moving a big heavy track machine around the trkstp. with no chains on it and no outriggers..
To me not a good idea..

Do they still do the big buffet at that TA? Haven't been there in 3-4 years, but they used to spread out a monster of a breakfast there.
