I'm not sure I have seen any active members that work for Saia on here but, it's worth a shot.

I got offered a local city driver position for them and am just curious if anyone has any info., good or bad. The pay/benefits package is very nice but, I know ziltch other then that. They have nice equipment and it was the longest road test I've ever been on lol.

    Thanks in advance.

If you got offered the job, Take it! LTL is a career, not a job. Stay with them and you will be able to retire nicely. I dont work for them but am a City peddle driver. It is definitley WORK, but its rewarding.

Back in 80s they were tiny little outfit. Used to interline stuff going to odd ball places in LA. Now a good sized common carrier that survived. Line drivers seem happy. Go for it. May have to work extra board or sit due to seniority in bad economy. But long term should be good job.

I have to agree with you. LTL is a career and not just a job. Ill stay LTL if I do remain a truck driver. The only way Im leaving is if I get a better job in a different field. Especially if I get on with a paid FD

    Isn't Saia a non-union division of YRC?

No. Reddaway is non-union in most terminals, but a lot of them are looking to vote them in. Not sure about Holland though, and New Penn is union though

Saia was good when I worked there but that was before the recession. I worked line haul and a lot of the local guys wished they were line haul. They paid good but be careful you don't mess up, they will fire you in a heartbeat! A guy dropped a trailer because the kingpin didn't lock and they fired him on the spot. Stupid mistake but they don't like it. Another one was if the bar on the front of the trailer unlocked and slid down while you were driving, another automatic fire. Accidents too if they were bad enough. They paid for sitting, breakdowns and mileage. At Reddaway I don't get paid when I sit unless a guy is late on a meet turn. My yard isn't union though.
