I agree with you 100%.....You new O/O's, it takes time to build a reputation. Do the best you can do and earn those good paying loads....Nobody gives them away to a newbie O/O...

The #1 thing to remember is.....The person looking back at you in the mirror is responsible for your success or failure in the trucking biz.....Nobody else can do that for you.....Red Hot Mess, reefer75, drvrtech77 and 1 other person Thank this.

Really?!!!!! I'm an O/O with my O/A with a freight agreement with LS.....I also have have an agreement with CHR and other big brokers as well.....I can get great rates from any one of them....All it takes is to know your lanes...Know your costs....And develop a good relationship with these people....Red Hot Mess Thanks this.

Please excuse my ignorance but why not own your own wagons? Or does LS discourage the L/O's from running their own wagons?
-
Note the emphasized......I always ask if there is more money left on the table...Even from LS... Is this a problem with the LS L/O's where they can't ask for more money?
-
Does Landstar reefer division work any differently?
-
On the contrary. If you own your own wagon you get a greater % of the load value.

One other myth that needs to be laid to rest. Agents give good freight to favorites.. ...wrong. They give it to dependable people they have worked with before and trust to take care of business. They want to cover the freight. If someone they know is usually easy to call on, quick on rate agreement, and has been touching base to let them know they are empty/available then they will get that great load cause a Yea or Nay takes about 15 seconds, and that load never sees any board. That is networking.. if they don't know you from previous business and then you fail to follow up you will never get that freight. That is working for the business and earning it. There is no luck or playing favorites. You either set yourself up to be available and actively solicit the good stuff or you don't and then make excuses
landstar8891, LSAgentOZR, Working Class Patriot and 1 other person Thank this. -
That is why this agent i do my NYC Runs calls me in on the 300 mile run for $2,500...After many ''problems'' in the Big Apple with BCO's,she DEPENDS on me to not have ISSUES...
I have PROVEN myself and i do well.It is not because i am her ''favorite''.It is because I run a very tight ship in my small business...
Right on Rollin Coal...I used to think it was all about ''favorites'' when i started.Today i realize it is all about SERVICE for some of the agents.mp4694330 and rollin coal Thank this. -
I got one better for you..I ''choose'' a Landstar Van at 65% and i am still making a killing...I got rid of my ''van'' to service many high paying customers with drop and hook...I am making more with a company van then i did with my own at 72%...I was losing many many loads in the Northeast because i had my own van...Rick_C, mp4694330 and russellkanning Thank this.
