The ugly truth about Landstar

I see there are many Landstar Haters...I just ''cleared'' $2,900...I started Friday Night and will finish on Monday night-Tuesday Morning...Then home for 4-7 days to enjoy life....EASY MONEY HERE AT LANDSTAR...

Some people just don't want to ''WORK'' at it...

 

Very true.I lost a good run because i screwed up a couple times.I kick myself for that and i am trying to work my way back in there...

I have not one person to ''BLAME'' but me..Here is the kicker.It loads 20 miles from my house everyday and pays 3-5 bucs a mile...

 

Would you please be so kind and ''expose'' yourself and let us all know whom you work for and what ''business'' you are in.?...It is only ''fair''..We are exposed as Landstar Drivers...

Please tell...

 

Someone with a problem child Volvo could easily feel that way. My neighbor has a hole blow out of his D13 head, and he'd only owned the truck for a little over 6 months. 20,000 dollars later, he's rolling again.
A friend of mine was leased to me when I had my authority. His monthly bills for everything at home and work were under 2k. He used my fuel card and pulled my trailer, I paid insurance too. His average weekly check was 2k take home, during Katrina he had a week he took home $10k. Somehow, he never had money for repairs either and he became a company driver for me when he turned his truck in to the bank.

 

Well, you got me there, i know some people who are the same way, no matter how much they make they never have nothing.im just getting concerned about all the negative comments on here about a company im thinking about leasing on to

 

Just because a person is a "FORMER" driver doesn't mean they weren't cut out for it. Perhaps the person hit retirement age. OR like me had not choice due to physical reasons. Assuming something is not the best thing to do.

 

My impression from the negative comments is that they largely see themselves as "truckers" rather than "business owners" (like the comment asking whether we are driving or selling Mary Kay for example). As a business owner you are doing much more than trucking. Every successful business is like a three legged stool, you need good accounting, good sales & marketing, and good service or product. It sounds like most of the negative comments come from folks that only want to focus on one leg of the stool, the service (driving), and think that should be all that is required of a "truck driver". This is true if you are a company driver, or if you are leased to a company that pays a fixed amount per mile. However, with Landstar or similar companies that allow you to pick your load based on rate, you are now in a competitive environment with all other truckers within the system. In a competitive environment there will be winners and .... not so winners.... I'll put my money on the "truckers" within the Landstar system that concentrate on all three legs of the business stool.

 

If you're a self starter that can make good decisions, you should do fine here. If one of your goals is to get your own authority, you will learn a lot here. If you can't multitask, are introverted, or like to be dispatched and told where to go, this isn't for you. A lot of guys come here with big dollar signs in their eyes, then find out that the way they like to run, maybe coast to coast pulling van, doesn't have those big dollars. Some guys aren't disciplined enough to get up in the morning and they miss any morning loads, then gripe they layed over. Some have this crazy notion they won't deadhead more than 50 miles. Some don't want to tarp or get kicked off a job site because they are wearing flip flops. Landstar the company keeps you in compliance. The agents are self employed small business' just like the o/o. Everyone is expected to act accordingly, but as we know by the state of our society, there will always be those that cannot. They usually blame others for their faults as well. I've never been not paid for something I'm owed, I've found above average rates compared to the load boards while having my authority and I'm pretty happy. LS is not perfect by any means, but what other trucking company can you take the winter off and not even have to tell anyone, just turn your logs and stay in compliance.

 

Don't you find it funny that someone will post something, usually negative on these sites and then you never hear from them again after someone else has asked them a question?

 

Thanks for the info fortycal.it sounds like landstar will be a good fit for me since im coming from the household moving business which is all about customer service and on time pick-up and delivery
