Schneider is an excellent company. Very safety consious, and I never had a problem with my driver managers. The training orientation is shorter but intense, and you don't team drive for a month with your trainer. Also lots of options, and great benefits. I'm not a recruiter, but you could do a lot worse than to start w Schneider.

$.28 a mile starting is BS. I started last July and I started out at $.33 and up to $.36 already. Sounds like he might have been talking about Walmart driver pay.

I know this was posted a while back but it is very good advice for new drivers or people like myself trying to get back into driving after a while off the road. I'm working on my TWIC card and endorsements now and plan to continue knocking on doors.
Thanks,

Nope. If you take the time to shop around you can find decent pay. You will never survive on twenty something cents per mile.Elendil Thanks this.

I dont get it if there is a truck there is a company somewere but more than often if you are right out of school even with all endoursments a passport card and a twic companies want experience. Thats it Ive called Hundreds and plenty will say call us in 12 months ( Us foods will take me in 6!).Useful to an unemployed CDL holder. But then there are companies like DANA or Tri-Tech who want up to 5 years of tank forget just driving box.Im going to go with the pumpkins tanks for if I can deal with it for maybe 12 months and get this hurdle out of the way.I mean Quality will take me in 8 months but does that help me now? Point im making to all you old dogs is let us newbies experince this stuff and learn it everyone has a bias oneway or another but it comes down to what you will do here.

That's accurate. I have been on the road for three months and schneider is starting me at 29 cpm. I guess I got a penny for my experience but everything else in op is exactly what schneider told me. With as little as six months experience a lot of locations also have bonus pay. Most of the companies all pay about the same. The majority of them start people at around 28 cpm solo. Most of them also have bonuses. Shneider does seem to lack fuel bonuses but said there is additional up to 3 cents a mile performance bonus for having loads on time and such. So you could make 31 cpm starting out. The pay seems ok to me. It's a good middle class pay check. It's hard to find a job with little experience or skill that will pay good anymore. Once you have a year experience your pay drastically goes up and if it doesn't you can quit and find a place that will pay more, but I don't know why people would expect to make $1,500 a week right out of school. It's a little absurd.
I chose Schneider because a lot of people have a lot of good things to say about them. I know their trucks are slow and pay is only about average, but I prefer a company that is honest with me and treats me with respect and wants me to succeed. I also wanted to go with electronic logs.
I looked into a lot of companies and they are all about the same. If any company was paying well below the others nobody would work for them. It's just common sense. I saw some companies like CRST has really low pay, but then you can get a lot of home time. There are trade offs, depending on what you want. You could find a company with really high pay per mile and good miles, but drive some old run down truck. there is always a trade off.
Since the recession (2008) though it seems the pay has been down. As work picks up and demand goes up they should be raising the pay. You make about $500 or $600 a week very easily right out of school. I met people working at PAM who said they were only making $150 a week. Then I went out and was averaging over $700 a week doing teams. That's because I drove my clock out every day. Some people are just lazy and then blame the companies. They want everything handed to them for free and always blame the world for their mistakes. I wish the pay was a little higher but I don't think the jobs seem too bad. There's always the option to get experience and more endorsements and move on to higher pay. One could even become a trainer after only 6 months in a lot of places and make a lot more money.Last edited: May 13, 2013
