I agree...you must be looking at what you reported to the IRS as income after all deductions or you're right...trucking sucks! You said you ran 114524 miles. Let's just say you averaged on the low end of what you posted at 5.5 mpg. That would mean you burned 20822.54 gallons of fuel. Diesel hovered around $4 a gallon in 2012 so let's use $4 a gallon for fuel. That totals $83,290.16 for the year in fuel....could be higher or lower depending on the real cost and not estimated cost. That still leaves $131709.84 for your pay, maint, repairs, tags, 2290, truck and/or trailer payment, insurance and ROI. Now, if you don't have a truck and/or trailer payment that will probably free up $20 to $30K of the left over money. Not sure how you could not of made a profit.....??

Have you ever figured out what you cost per mile to operate the truck is? Just seems to me that you had a pretty decent gross for the year but were unable to pocket any money

Theres a big sign of the first problem right there. You should know your expenses down to how much it cost you per mile. I would recomend you sign up for and use Profit Guages at www.mygauges.com , that way you can SEE very clearly where the money is going so you can work on controlling your costs better.
