Unfortunately I'm going to have to part with Saia already. Due to an unforeseen schedule conflict with my wife I'm going to have to find a job either driving overnight or one that starts very early and gets off very early afternoon.

It absolutely kills me as this was an awesome job, the drivers, terminal manager, dispatcher and everyone else were just awesome. They had great pay/benefits and great equipment as well. The only downside was starting at 9 or 10 in the morning and running until 6, 7 or 8 at night.

I'll probably never be lucky enough to land another LTL gig but, oh well I guess.

@scythe08 who do you work for. That's what I like about my job, even though its a pain slip seating you don't have to worry about driving some crazy guys truck and messing up

@radman yea I was mad too, but 59 the whole way home, up hills no down shifting 3 gears to get up one little hill makes up the time. Normally a Harrisburg for us is 4.5 hours and 221 miles. If your light you can do it faster. Especially at 30k+ a lot of times your doing 30-35mph up hills. I had a triple unit coming home and was under 4 hours getting home. So that's a benefit of them even only at 59mph.

@Mack185 do they have line-haul open? If so take that, majority of line-haul is night

I was only there for 6 months in 06 .It was for DATS Trucking in Salt Lake City, Ut. I had my own twin screw Daycab, but For some reason they always made me take a sleeper truck if I was doing that big run, unless both Guys were already on it and I was just an extra. Great equipment, but lousy pay for LTL. But they were a small company and I actually made more money being an extra board driver at night than I did alot of guys with Dedicated runs, because I got to run all of them. Made my nights more interesting as there was always several routes that I could go on and the guys that I turn and burned with were all awesome! But I really hated northern Utah in the winter. That was the only Job I have ever gone to work scared. But They gave me a chance and taught me to drive Linehaul with Doubles and triples and I will always respect them for that.

Yea I hear you there. My last LTL job was a complete joke at CWF. I would only work dock outbound at times from 5-8 and only because so they didnt have to pay guys overtime... Spent more money in gas than I made a week. P/D I would only get maybe 8 hours in a day as they would try to get you done before hand as well. Line-haul was an even bigger joke. Would do the outbound, then hook a set to drive about 40-50 miles just to work the dock at the hub. And our routes were always crammed with traffic, took over 2.5 hours to get too at times, shouldve just kept us paid hourly.

Now I dont hate CWF at all. I hate the terminal I worked at. I cant hate the company as they trained me to drive, hook sets, drive sets etc when no one else would. I see guys on here who seem to good there but have quite a bit senority. So CWF no matter how bad my experience was, I will have to respect them for the training... although I dont think Id ever want to work there again LOL (no offense CWF guys)

Only linehaul runs at night and those positions are hard to get. One spot opened up and one of the most experienced city guys got it. Working the dock is the only other night option.

hard to find an early morning on early afternoon off LTL job without senoirty... Best bet would be to do Line-haul at night, or something like food service, normally they end early morning. at least by me.

not trying to discourage you or anything, just letting you know from what my experience is all about

I'm fine with nights, have done it before. I don't know what I should do, LTL jobs aren't hanging from trees, I might call and beg em to let me back and resolve the schedule issue another way.

I like working nights better than days, but ive been working nights since I was 18 so its like whatever. Try to find an open line-haul position that runs nights. I know we have a terminal in St Louis, so Im thinking theres other carriers around there. Just have to do your homework for them. Usually Line-haul is nights so im sure you would be ok with that, but doing p/d you would have a late start time as the guys whove been there for a long time will take all the nice early ones

I run daytime ltl (road) it's nice sleeping at night and watching the news in the morning but sometimes I wish I was on a night schedule. Thankfully we have rebids once a year if the traffic stress becomes too much to handle.
