welcome to my world. I just dh 245 miles to pick up a load for ch Robinson and the darn place is closed till Monday. And there's no loads anywhere within 500 miles of me that pick up today, according to dispatch. I'm taking a forced 34 in St. Paul MN.

Thank you Arkansas Frost. And yeah I just wanna drive. I heard a lot of people cry about low mileage loads and/or waiting for a load for days at a time. Is this something to expect in trucking once in a while or did those people make a mistake and cry about the consequences?

I was wondering about some terms I am not familiar with that pertain to trucking such as. Detention pay. What is that and does Central have it? And perdiem?? never heard of that one. And if someone has details about the health insurance such as co pays and deductibles that would be great.

I've done quite a bit of searching for reviews and information on trucking companies in general. So far this thread has been great. Not all negative and not all positive just a great general idea of what I'm getting myself into. Thanks everyone.

Detention Pay is pay for having to wait on a shipper/receiver. Central detention starts after 2 hours and pays $15/hr up to 8 hours ($30 if your an owner operator).

Per Diem refers to money spent on the road as an expense (basically for food) and so is not taxed. Central has a Per Diem agreement that pays .08 cents of your mileage pay as non taxed. This allows company drivers to file the short EZ tax form and not totally miss out on this allowance. Owner operators will file a long form anyway and will actually calculate the government allowance on their taxes. In fact, as independent contractors they receive there money without taxes withheld and send their taxes on their own.

    Rookie2013 Thanks this.

You do seem to have a dark cloud hovering over you. Well, just think it could always get worse. Hope they get you truck straightened out and get you back rolling into greener pastures. How do you like the Pete?

I am on a run from OR to PA and sitting at the Pilot in Bentleyville to get a convenient 34hrs reset between drops. Than it is off to OH and back to WA. I did see/pass a lot of Central trucks on I-80.

It could definitely be worse- the shiny side is up and I'm still running down the road. I don't like the Pete. I got used to driving and backing it quick enough, but it has the worst gearbox ever. With only 150k on the clock, every gear but 7th is loose enough that it floats in even when you do a #### job of rev matching. 7th is a pain to get in. And worst of all it popped out of 8h going down the interstate. It looks nice, but I prefer my cascadia. One good thing though, I'm averaging over 8mpg. My first load was 44.8k and the second was 43k, so that's pretty good.

Btw, whoever left crsco and left their cascadia hooked to an mt to save it, I stole it. When I finally talked to dispatch they told me their were 6 mt's on trucks that didn't need them, so I should go take one. Empty search victorious.
