Hello all,
First of all, I have to utmost respect for Truckers after reading through the threads here. You all have a tough job! I'll get right to my reason for joining the Truckers report. My husband of 18 years is a convicted felon (21 years ago). He's a fantastic person and a wonderful father. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time and thus he is marked for life. He has been a self employed landscaper with steady employment as a subcontractor. We live in Maine, so his employment is only 7 months of the year. We have reached a point where we cannot survive with his income only 7 months of the year. Plowing sounds like a good idea until you consider that Maine gets fewer and fewer snowstorms every year. My cousin has been a trucker for many years and he loves it. He recommended we look into it for my husband and so we did. We found that many companies hire felons. He started Driver Training School for his CDL A a few weeks ago. He goes every Sat and Sun from 7:30 am to 5 pm. This is for 12 weekends. The school gave him a list of companies to apply to as well as various websites for trucking jobs. What a great help! Except that he has applied to every single company that will hire a student and received 6 call backs. 4 said no due the nature of his conviction and two told him they would consider him. The threads for each company are less than stellar. If he does take one of these offers, should he take an OTR or regional position? We are interested in what pays more overall (less per mile, but more miles or more per mile with less miles?) and also which would give him the most experience to open up his prospects. Please help.
Husband still in Driver Training School, scared about little to no propective jobs!

don't know anything about those companies, but due to his record he might have to go with who will hire him. i would recommend him to keep on applying to every company and keep in touch with the recruiters of those that seem to be interested in him. i wish him luck
Drac1985 Thanks this. -
Wil trans is part of Prime, good company with good equipment. Try some local companies maybe a small outfit in your area, they will often times times hire new driver's. Good luck

maine is not a great state for freight, werner hires felons and so will a few others. very few, when dealing with this kinda thing, a face to face drop off of the app is better so he can explain. still, with a class A he can do end dumps and roll offs, any kinda of local work, for a quarry to get his time in or any where, the thing ive seen and heard if you have time in behind the windshield the felony is less looked out. if he can find anything and still do his landscape on the weekends. if y'all where around us, i'd tell yea to come in and talk to hr, we're a smaller flatbed company that's family owned and they understand mistakes happen.

Here's a list of companies that hire felons, apply online :
The big problem is you live in Maine. Can you move to a warmer climate and a location with better freight lanes? Nine states have no personal income tax, which means you can keep more of your paycheck.
Martin Enterprises of the Carolinas Inc.
Falcon Transport
K&B Transportation
Carolina Cargo
Western Express
Paschall Truck Lines
Buel Inc.
Gray Transportation
Apergis Transportation
Dynamic Transitbullhaulerswife and Drac1985 Thank this. -
Thanks everyone for the support. We will keep looking. None of the local companies say they will hire recent graduates, but he will start calling and knocking on doors just the same. Fingers crossed. We will also check out thecompanies you mentioned Chinatown, THANK YOU!

And I would love to move to a warmer climate if it weren't for my mom being elderly and not wanting to move away from her sisters. I hate the snow!!
Chinatown Thanks this. -

Has he checked with state and county DOT ? Many cities hire workers to work on street departments before they even get a CDL .
