You mean I should get rid of these Firesticks that give me an SWR so flat that I barely have to move the calibration knob from 1 to 40, and so low you barely see the needle move? Yeah, I'll do that!

Actually, ALL antennae are a compromise, of one sort, or another. A well designed fiberglass antenna, will be less noisy, than an all metal antenna, but will not transmit, quite as well, regardless of acceptable SWR (<1.7:1). An all metal antenna, of good design, will typically out transmit, a fiberglass vertical, but will also have significantly more noise.

Did they put a new Echo board in it or fix the one that was in it. With some radios Sometimes if you are not carefull with board installs "And believe me I have seen plenty of half #####** installs that caused all kinds of problems".Anyway sometimes they are installed sloppy and cause there to be and unwanted ground taking place as "The kind that Outlaw was talking about" besause of the echo board.. Just something to think about.. There of course could be other reasons but you must eliminate as you go.. Oh does the NB or ANL have any effect on the noise at all..

Noise cancel switch works, but doesn't totally eliminate the sound. Once I moved it into a different truck, the sound went away. The power supply must have been after the alternator with no filter. I'm also thinking about picking up a power supply filter when I get my car next week.
