I must be a bit "old School" ha ha , I have more tools in my truck then I do in my garage, i'm definitely not the type to sit on the side of a highway waiting for some( 1-2 -3 hrs ??) dude that will be miserable anyways, bring the wrong part/parts, or something, oh .. my gut wrenchs just to think about it .I have and will change my own tires if I have to ,then roll into a tire shop , unfortunately there are some situations , where it is just not safe. I carry extra everything ( brake chamber/hose repair kits/belts/wire connectors/etc ,) But you get the idea, to each there own.(I carry a propane torch also , never know when you may need to heat up a nut or tin some wires)
Logan76 Thanks this. -
My ideal truck would be a Condo cab with a mini-garage like you see on some RV's......Of course like my garage at home....It would be so full of tools and other stuff....You couldn't move around in it....

I would love to get one those Toyhaulers (5th wheel) there amazing, so multi use in "garage".Well if you loaded it like that, you would never be missing anything .....if you could find it ..lol

I always get a kick out of these 'ol skool threads--and while I must admit guilt for still carryin more tools--than I could ever possibly need--and while the older I get(or longer I do this)my affinity for the old days grows stronger--and while proudly still stating that a B-Model Mack was/is the most BEAUTIFUL truck ever built.......
I am in no particular hurry to go back to armstrong steering--2or3 gearsticks and communal showers w/cold water--any time soon
Just sayin -
One tool that should be considered for a tool kit is a good hack saw that can cut through the remnants of a tire and plies. When I was codriving with my brother we blew the inside front drive tire (which also took out the air bag and the front mud flap). The tire sidewalls separated from the tread, but the tread stayed intact. Without a hacksaw we couldn't cut away the remnants of the tire, so after unhooking the trailer we had to bobtail at 10 mph for twenty miles to the nearest place to get a new tire with the remnants of the tire beating a rhythm on the mud flap bar. If we had a hacksaw we could have made the bobtail journey much faster with less damage, he'd left it behind by mistake on that trip. It now stays in the truck permanently and he bought a second hacksaw for home to make sure.

What I have found is that no matter how many tools you have, the one you absolutely must have is not in your possession and no one else has one to loan you, either.
I carry more than most, but have cut it down some because we drive lease trucks, and sometimes have to grab what we need and go with a loaner, it gets the job done, but I can't stand to have my tools stolen while someone else has possession of my truck. -
The one "tool" nobody mentioned.....You need plenty of this
to run the road.....

Ha ha ha , so very true WCP and 25-2 , well , one of lifes mystery's that will never be solved, I try not to lend anymore, has memory fades , I cannot keep track , one on the other maybe the borrowers memory is the same...lol can't win.

I'm upgraded now , carrying a cordless sawzall and drill for those exact scenario's , you bet ol trusty manuel hacksaw is there too, with plenty of blades..... Olhand I agree you can keep those ole 2-3 sticks, but it was fun to shift and drive in reverse, just think if the new generations had those trucks to drive !!!! By the way I don't really consider myself "old school" if i'm kinda the blend/transistion generation, but I was also I lic'd truck mech.... just got tired of smelling like a fuel tank..
