I'm right there with you Radman! I miss the open road but the pay keeps me here.
I did the low carb deal on the road and lost 30lbs in one month! I couldn't believe it! I didn't do a lick of exercise either. My back and neck pain went away too. In fact I just started it again. I feel terrible though.

Bah I gained 20 back... But everyone keeps saying I lost... Maybe muscle LOL.
Ive always wanted to do construction trucking, tanker or heck those turnpike doubles, now I got the exp I keep thinking, but then once I look at my stub and see how good I got it compared to others I just laugh my way to the bank.
the few times I did a layover I brought meals for the two days. Normally I bring my protein shake and two small sandwiches for the road during my day. Normally average 12-14 hours per day. I dont eat fast food anymore, so I stay away from that, and even thse truck stop restaurants. I only stopped at one once because my friend and I were doing the same run, same time so we got lunch together at this place he knows. -
I stayed thin otr, course I was an owner/op for united van lines doing household goods, and I also hauled cattle..so I had active jobs, and didnt sit around much. My terminal, the top guys take the longer runs, since we have to work the dock, they have very little dock time. They've got 9 hours of driving round trip, and 2 hours or so on the dock. The lower guys only have a 210 mile round trip, and make all their money on the dock. Low hands are only making about $120.00 in driving,.plus their drop and hook...but have 4-6 hours on the dock. Top hands have $300 in driving with their drop and hooks..plus their dock time. Con-way gets a bad wrap for being low paying, uptight with their rules, over-use of "safe", and "safety", but being home every day, and 6 figure income isn't a bad deal in anybodys book. I think a lot about greener pastures, and making the leap, but can't commit to doing it. I've got a few more classes to get my real estate license, and getting away from trucks...11 years is long enough for me. I'm sure I'll always miss driving, but maybe a 379 Pete, and a stacker trailer to haul the mustang to races would make up for it lol.

@Cool35 yeah I feel like a caged animal doing these lay downs. Love Otr in the summer. Pay here is way better so it keeps me here plus able to work out. Haven't tried low carb but might give it a try.
@ACH1130 it happens with the weight gain. Could be losing fat though. I've been up and down too man. Wish we had more turns at my terminal. Easier to get to the gym and carrying food. We have one of the biggest miles in our company though.
@ Highway Prisoner Conway pays well they start out at 20+ hr. We have alot of drivers who came from over there, they like it here more even with a pay cut. Seems like you got it down there. If I worked there I'd probably get fired cause I'm definetly not fast with a forklift. Lol.
I miss driving these bad boys.
Purple one had to get painted white cause of Grounds policy. I was lucky my boss wanted nice trucks. He had to sell them for fuel efficient trucks which is very smart. -
@Radman, Low carb is tough in the beginning. It's harder when driving a truck because you have to make all your food. I ate a lot of chicken salads from subway and used my own apple cider vinegar and olive oil for the dressing. Easier now cause I cook steak, chicken, even fish to bring with me. For breakfast I eat bacon and eggs. I like low carb the best because you will see your abs again. It's the best at burning belly fat!

Those are my favorite trucks. The W900L!

Highway Prisoner, did you not make a boat load doing bed bugging? I did it at North American Van Lines back in 1998-1999. I made a freaking killing! Did high value products in the winter cause moving got slow. That is still my highest year of net pay ever! Even with all the truck payments, ins, etc. I sold my truck and went to work for Consolidated Freight. The rest is history.

@Radman Im hoping so, my dad is about 15 pounds heavier and looks just big. Probly did lose the fat and got muscle, I do feel a LOT more energetic though, not like a zombie. Guess since I really changed my eating habits as well, plus the gf is like a health nazi and she normally helps what to eat, since shes in school for nursing. she used to be big back in HS as I seen her pics, but has lost all the weight(praying she nevers sees this). Majority of our runs are turns, we only layover at 6 or 7 terminals. The rest are either one long trip, or multiple short trips which is my bid, I can make as much miles or more than a long turn so it works out, plus we get a lot more clock time
@cool35 I did that low carb diet a few months ago, figured what the heck, I did lose A LOT but for some reason it spiked my blood pressure up VERY high. When I changed my diet again it seemed to get lower, normally have the gf take it for me every so often just to keep checking, really dont want to go on meds. I bring all my own food with me so Im good about that.
@highway prisoner at least you got a decent line-haul run. When I was at CWF mine was either 40-45 miles EACH WAY, had to work the outbound, then go to one of those two terminals and work the dock some more. There was no reason for us to run those two terminals in jersey. Then our big runs we had a 400+ and a 550 which you would never see -
Yeah, like driving a RV. Very comfortable plenty of room. Leather seats. Had a microwave, fridge, and a flat screen tv in it too. I make way more money now though. Rather have the money and be home. Don't mind driving my daycab cause I don't sleep in it and I know what my checks gonna look like.

I know but it sure was fun. Trucking isn't the same anymore. When my daughter graduates high school, I might go otr again. I'm really only doing this because of the home time. I don't need the money, my wife makes triple what I make. When I needed money and home time, ltl was the way to go. Then again, I always made good money in trucking. I always had dedicated runs making 1200+ a week. I was very picky on my jobs.
