I am thinking about going back O/O
I have pretty much everything I need to do it far as computer software goes that will help me run my business but I do need help in finding one thing...
Fuel optimization program....
Yes I know
PCMiller
ProMiles XF
Truckers Helper
All have it... But they must be purchased with all the software I already have..
I am looking for a simple program that does only Fuel optimization...
Any help???? -
Fuel is one of the 3 biggest expences an O/O has, Your Unit and Truck acct. are the others...There are other expences, but this is all about fuel and how to stretch it as far as you can.. There are 9 factors to consider when trying to conserve fuel..Some factors we can control and some are completely out of our hands..Those we cant control are weights, terrain and weather..Those we can control are Idle, Speed, Tire Pressure, equal weight dist. on tandems, Progressive shifting and Aerodynamics when we purchase a unit..There may be more... Do you apply the effort it takes to change what you can about fuel mileage.....Do you know any other ways to stretch it?? What are your results??? Test your Unit and your capability on you next fueling.. I always got between 7 and 8 on a Cabover! Sometimes better..It could mean the difference of .05 to .08 a mile to your profits...05 X 2800=140.00 X 4=560.00 a month..08 X 2800=224.00 X 4= 896.00...Thats a house payment for some...Is it worth it?? It was to me.. And it payed off well..

ease into the throttle, taking your time to accelerate. it makes a big difference if you don't run around with the boost gauge pegged.
use the cruise on the flats after you get up to speed.
coast to the stop lights... it might go green before you get there and save you having to start over from a stand still. -
Well if you take advantage of buying the cheapest fuel you can, and have a fuel surcharge worth a darn..Applying these techniques as have been mentioned can increase it even above .10+ a mile..And like mentioned here by the previous poster..Gouging into the throttle overexcessively can cause your fuel consumption to look like Niagra Falls in your fuel pump..And it will cost you out the A&%!!!

98 cent a gallon was a biggie ten years ago,and the ten years before that. The current price is insane. All pointers before mentioned do increase MPGS.Also(like it or not) Drafting, expecially when bucking headwind has big MPG payback.Downsides are its dangerous and hard on the paintjob, ect. There is only room for improvemt for increased areodynamics of the undercarrige of vehicles.Saveing fuel is also conserving natural resources.

I'v often contemplated those side skirts you see on the conway trailers wondering how much of a gain they get from them. Unfortunatly I see allot of them smashed up too.
-
Yea I know exactly what your saying the prices are unreal..And yea I was going to mention Coasting but thought Id leave that out for like you say its dangerous, and with new drivers I was afraid theyd be comeing off Snow Shoe, Fancy Gap or Cabbage in neutral a saveing that fuel..lol Ive done it thousands of times on hills etc, but know what you can do on something like that. And what not to if you do it at all....Mountains NO!! Its like he said, Its Dangerous!! Very Dangerous!!
-
MedMan, I dont guess Ive seen them...Trailor skirts? Its been almost 2 years for me though..
-
What kind of fuel mileage are you averaging on them??? Just curious, compared to a standard transmission....Anyone know??
