The lower four switches to the left are air switches, diff lock, not sure what the 2nd one is, air ride drop and fifth wheel pins (slide). The switches to the right of that are electrical switches I'd ask him if he has anything different wired up to them before, always nice to know theses things before hand if you ever have trouble with something.

We haul heavy as well and some of our trucks have extra boxes, they all have headache racks with 10 ratchet binders and 10 3/8's chain, 3 ratchets and straps, O/D stuff, fridges, inverters, microwaves and I don't think any are of 20k I doubt if that truck would be either.

Thanks underpsi! I saw them today, and everything you said is spot on.
I happened to be going through the place where that truck was today, so stopped by and checked it out.
Upon first glance, it was indeed very clean.
After that though, it went downhill a little, considering the $73,500 firm price the place has on the unit.
Tires are all @50%, brakes 75% at most.
There is a large spot on the frame rail where it has either been painted mat black, or the top layer of gloss black has faded.
Got into it, and it indeed started right up from cold. Air pressure built up nice etc. Data display read all good.
Went under the hood, to find a good size oil leak on the passenger side of the block. After talking to one of the guys at my local Freightliner dealer, it sounds like it's the rear cover leaking, needing the tranny, clutch, flywheel all to be removed to repair.
Shut the rig off and fired up the APU. Started up and blew cold air, cool! Right until it stopped itself, and the display said "Check APU engine"....
For under $60k, it would be a nice rig, and at that price I could fix the little stuff that is wrong with it to make it a really nice rig. For the price he insists on though, it's a no go for me. He is asking the extra due to low miles, the APU, and the newer 18 speed and clutch. The tranny and clutch need to come out and the APU needs attention.
The interior looked very clean, as did most of the rig. The tanks were in a position where boxes could be added behind them for straps etc, it had all the gauges, and so on. I just can't bring myself to spend over the top money on a rig that will need tires at the end of the year, leaks oil, and has an APU that runs for 30 seconds...
    The hunt continues.

Sorry to hear it wasn't all it was supposed to be. When I was truck shopping for this truck, I traveled up and down the East coast, looking for the one. Ended up buying this one 80 miles from the house.

Martin there was an '03 long hood western star lowmax with the 82" bunk & 6nz singe turbo cat for sale on truckpaper a while back. I think they were asking $19,000 for it, granted it had quite a few miles on it but a guy could stick some money into it and have one hell of a truck with a pre emissions motor.

    Cheers AJ.
I am not a big fan of Cats in general mate, just my .02...
LI dont mind spending the coin on a good truck that offers decent value etc.
There is a '07 4 axle in St Louis for $64k, with 350k miles on it. Not a double frame, so would just pull the lift axle off it and sell it.
Also, there are 06-07 in Mo, one of which has a rebuilt S60 in it with zero miles and warranty, for $57k.
Trucks are out there, just finding one that floats my boat, so to speak.

Finding one that has everything we want is getting to be a headache....lol
If we could combine @6 trucks into one, it would be a piece of cake!
There is one in Az that is spec'd nice, but someone ordered either a mint green or very light bird crap green WS! Color blind....
Then there are the ones that look like stripped down fleet trucks, then ragged out interiors and rusty frames, and so on.
The blue and the green ones seem to look the best to us this far.
Place in Wi is doing some gliders, like a fully loaded EX with a Pre emission Cat etc, 164 THOUSAND dollars??? They nuts or what?:biggrin_2559:

I wouldn't worry about a rusty frame if the truck is nice. Having a frame painted is cheap, so is some broken interior pieces. A truck doesn't have to be perfect, you can make it perfect to suit yourself.

The Lowmax I spec'ed earlier this year with dinette sleeper using my engine and trans and new 12/46 rears was 90,000 plus labor for installing the engine and trans. It needed some tweaks that would have brought it over 100, but still very doable. I just didn't like the salesman. Good luck
