I keep reading the miles are down and drivers are waiting for loads or short loads but i still see hiring signs, new recruits going to orientation all excited but if you read the posts from the experienced drivers their miles are crapp just seems the industry is shooting themselves in the foot with hiring 50000 drivers a year I hope i'm wrong maybe alot quit.
Does the hiring ever stop.

Holiday weeks are always a bit slow. The ones that quit because of continuous low miles typically have several reasons. They have an fm that is not good, they moan and complain about loads all the time. Quite often I find when I get a crap load that's 250 miles, they are setting me up for a decent one. They dawdle, take their time, whatever. Or they do consistently get good miles but every once in awhile a slow week comes up, then to that person, it's the end of the world, this company sucks, I don't get good miles...
truck drivers are some of the most fickle, petty, whiny people out there.peterd, Zangief, BIGLEE500 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Want a job with no chance of layoffs ... consistantly well above the average paychecks ... more work than you can shake a stick at ... try haulin gas. If you make the grade, you will earn every red cent they pay you. Been doing this since Feburary of 87 and have never had less than a full paycheck, never laid off, never fired ... but I have worked my rear end off ... it's all about detail, detail, detail ... but it can be done. It all depends on how much you want it!
Zangief, DrtyDiesel, Chinatown and 4 others Thank this. -
I kinda thaught that maybe they made a mistake in thinking they could do the OTR stuff and then complain about something to justify quiting or whatever.Still getting my ducks in a row before getting my cdl then i see all the beochin about every trucking outfit in the country including the few I'm interested in.

When you have 130 drivers leave for every 100 you hire, you're going to be looking for new recruits constantly.

Most drivers quit after 1 year at Roehl at the max. Some come back, some stay, but very few. I heard a saying on here, the grass is greener on the other side, but might have some weeds too. I've stayed a lil longer than year. Plenty of complaints but it could be worse, the rest of my orientation class I don't see anymore. They've moved on, but also live in the country were better opportunities. If I had the option I'd move on too. Just need more experience. If they stop hiring as well then orientation dept. as a whole would be laid off, as well as RTDC or whatever it's called. Depends on the season when miles are there. For the most part pretty good

it seems alot of drivers quit wherever they are working after 1 year to try a local co. I read that roehl is among the top 100 biggest trucking co.Man that seams like alot of big co, not sure how they rate.Alot of drivers recommend roehl for a starter company and then to move on It would be nice to start some companies but they say 2 years experience kinda wonder if that is their way of weeding out the knuckle heads.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
They weed themselves out. I don't know the numbers, but a very high percentage of people leave the industry within 6 months to a year.
