roehl is your best bet. I had a cousin that started and ended is driving career with them. he wasn't cut out for the truckers life. roehl has a maximum time driver can stay out. I believe it is 3 weeks. which i thought was pretty cool. transam= transport america I have heard nothing but bad things about them. and nobody really says much bad about averitt. so that is a positive. schnieder plays games with the drivers. so don't waste your time with them. I worked with an owner op that tried crete. he said is was great clear up until he had to be home to spend the holidays with his wife and kidz. he agreed to spend 2 weeks out and then go home. when christmas came. his 2 weeks out were about up. they told him he was going to have to work through the holidays. and he turned their truck in. and came back to running his own truck. plus crete is pretty much hated through out the deepest part of the south. another thing they did, crete fleet manager told the company driver to disregard his hos and go pick up a load. the driver fell asleep and rear ended a car killing 2 in the car a teen and a new born baby. plus injured 40 kidz on the bus. and i believe 5 of the kidz on the back of the bus were killed. after that the people of florida ran crete out of the state. and it has been years now. and we are starting to see cretes trucks coming back to florida. for the time in between all of cretes loads came to florida on shaffer trucks. some good advice. stay away from swift transportation. most other trucking companies will not count driving for swift as valid experience. to check out the full details on crete and the accident. you can google lake butler,florida.... out side of roelh= rail. stevens transport has a great training program. it's either 6 or8 weeks in training. I use to load at a lot of the same places as stevens. the trainers told me how they do it. and werner enterprises has a good training program. there's also 8 weeks with a trainer. right now, you could start out with over the top companies that are better then roehl, averitt and transport america. south eastern freight hires students. I think conway hires students. it really depends on what you are looking for. and what your needs are in your personal life. some good advice. get a passport and or passport fast card for canada. plus apply for the twic card. plus get and keep the hazmat endorsment. these are the top things that compaines are looking for in drivers. plus it adds another 25 to 32% to your income maybe more. plus if your not sure if you can go to canada. you can go down to the county clerks office and get a copy of your criminal history. or any history of legal matters that might keep you out of canada.
Have some job offers, a little advice please.

my last bit of advice. only believe about 2% of what you read in these trucking fourms. most of the people posting on here. are company drivers that are sitting in a truck stop some where. they most likely fatigued or upset at the company they work for. and they use the fourms a lot like they do the cb radio. in my time on the road. we called them truckstop drivers. because they drive from truck stop to truck stop. so the best thing you can do is research each company in other areas other then the trucking fourms. and decide on your own who and what will be the best fit based on your need and personal life. as for me. I just don't care to waste my breath or time lieing to someone. I just tell it how it is. and screw any one that doesn't like it. I just get the facts mixed up from time to time. and by the way the screen name is my real name.

No one is lying to this guy. I take it you have something against people who decide to stop at truck stops? -
I would pick the one that is going to have APU's. I like to be comfy while I'm resting. I have heard Averritt is decent. I think you wear uniforms. Don't do Schneider. I don't know about Roehl. I work for Ryder Systems. I'm home after every shift. So I am happy I took the time to really research the different employments. Be safe.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like it is a tossup between Averitt and Roehl, maybe because Transport America is not so well known?
Roehl says that they have APU's in their fleet of all newer trucks also.
Oh, and I would like to drive over the road in all 48, and do not particularly care to be home every weekend.Last edited: May 27, 2013

I would say roehl my son has worked there for three years. He gets treated well and they have APU on our trucks. Plus you have a lot of choices within the company, flat bed, Van, refer, and dedicated.

Just be advised Averitt has some retail accounts that require hand unload . Some examples are Cracker Barrel , TJ Maxx , and Shoe Carnival
