Stick it out at least 6 months. It will at least show you tried to make it work, plus some desparate companies will hire guys on with that much experience. I work for J. B. Hunt and they will take guys with as little as 4 months exp in some areas.
Do not drive for Wel companies

Yea jb hunt just called me a while ago .41 cents start out n first 8 week's if I don't get atleast 2100 miles I gwt paid for 2100 anyways. N if its more then ill get extra. Not sure if it's a smart move or just stick it out
-
Hmmm, what do they look like ?
Im kidding, I couldnt resist....
-
i'm the exception, not the rule. ffe promised 2500 a week, after 3 months of avg maybe 1100 @ .29 a mile i turned the truck in. had offers from boyd, melton, schnieder, swift plus a few more. ended up with a small company @.40 avg 25-2600 miles a week. (and no computer in my truck.)
like i said, i'm prob the exception but also proof it can happen. if you can't pay your bills it's time to go on to other pastures.whoopNride, Nick2001 and skootertrashr6 Thank this. -
Omg...1100 miles for a week? Really?...I don't care what anyone thought of me, thick skin, thin skin who gives 2 #####...MOVE ON! A lot of good waiting for you car to get reposed or getting foreclosed on because you can't pay your bills just to get a year experience. Switching one job I would bet you would have no problem getting another job. Just make sure you switch to a company you have thoroughly checked out. Ask other drivers at truck stops, read here all you can. I am 100% sure you can do better!

jthompson28 and skootertrashr6 Thank this. -
I hear ya ! not only did tina ( the recruiter ) @ ext.2189 screw up my ss# that was clearly written on my application she said I wasn't chosen at this time to drive for WEL. I guess this means they are sifting through the applications for gullible drivers.
-
No dispatcher pushed you over your 14!!!...you chose to do it...NO ONE can make you break the law PERIOD!
-
Don't believe in what jb hunt tells you, you will work 5 days a week and two days in a truck stop if if you didn't run half on your 70 hrs. i start with them on april 22 they gave me the same story they give and i told them to kiss it, don't go there unless they will give a local job to be home with your family but not to get pay.

Can I take my thick skin to the mortgage co.? Or will they tell me they only take cash?
Just wondering..
skootertrashr6, teqntexas and GSOK Thank this. -
I drive for Wel and its almost been a year. A few things I will say is this:
-no company can guarantee miles, you act like the recruiter was the first person you met who lied. Grow up.
-miles are cyclical. I've NEVER sat more than 5 hrs for a load. They get me broker loads to keep me moving.
-this is reefer, miles does not mean money. Short trips with multiple stops bring money. Let me ask, how many drops did you unload on your own? Not the best money but time savings means getting rolling and making more.
-Wel is a"big boy/girl" company. They give you the time to pu and deliver. They don't tell you where to fuel, park, which route to take or anything. Just be on time.
-Along with that, if you have an issue communicate it and don't jump the chain of command. Again, grow up.
-I'm Otr. The only time I'm at a terminal is swapping trailers, dropping off paperwork and occasional 34. I manage my elogs to avoid a restart. Again, no sitting.
-if you are still working here I'll meet up with you and explain how to work things efficiently. Let me know.
In closing, realize different drivers have different needs, abilities, and understandings. One company may not be good for you, but great for others. To each his own. Find a company that works for you and realize you will ever find a perfect company. Be flexible, open, and patient and you'll find the right company. Be a grown up and stop trashing companies bc YOU had a bad experience.
Lastly, don't EVER use your military experience as a justification as to why you are or are not entitled to things in life. I value, appreciate, and commend your service but we are not in a forced draft. All decisions in life are your choice. Use your skills, experiences, and education to make wise ones for yourself without harming others. If one company doesn't work out hold your head up and give your two weeks. Turn in your truck without abandoning it and maybe a little pride in your heart and life won't be so hard. It's only hard because you made it. All companies have flaws in all areas. If they were as bad as they were they wouldn't be runnin freight, keep drivers, or pay your check.
Hope things work out and if you want o talk in person let me know.DoneYourWay, Rocks, WesternEmpire and 7 others Thank this.
