We've got an 06 Freightliner FLD 120 SD with a 60 series Detroit. There's a pretty strong air leak at one of the slip joints on the exhaust manifold. Any tips or suggestions before we take this apart? Any help with avoiding surprises or "oops" would be greatly appreciated! Is there a one piece manifold available for this engine?

I ran into this leak on my 2000 model. I cleaned both sides of the manifold to bright metal and coated both sides with the muffler seal that comes in the tube. I put it back together with the center piece tightened first then bolted up the end pieces using a bar to push them into the center piece as I tighten them. This has held for at least 75000 miles so far. Not as high tech as some of the stuff I see on here but sometimes the simple stuff is the best:)

A one piece manifold would crack hence the purpose of the slip joint.

Cat use to have the muffler cement for there manifolds, but would not cover any damage caused if any of the cement got into the manifold and broke off destroying the turbo.
    The clamps and packing work.
