I don't beleive in wasting a lot of time and talk. So when I call about posted loads I always ask first how much it pays?
I've had a few brokers ask "don't you want to know about the load" ? I say not if it don't pay enough.
Had a couple get pissy about it, one hung up. Does that mean the load paid way to little or my lack condescension upset the brokers?
Am I supposed to act happy about low paying loads?
Correct me if I'm wrong?

It would be more efficient to just cut to the chase but... It's a dance and a negotiation. They are kind of the band leader.

I understand the desire to cut to the chase and often wish it were that simple. The key is to build relationships. The broker who hung up on you could potentially have supplied you with freight for the forseeable future and now you will never know. Therefore, I like to spend a few seconds identifying myself, inquire about a specific load and ask them for a proposed rate. If it's too low, I simply state that, " I can't do if for x but could do it for y and could have a truck there asap". This allows the broker to know that you have an available truck, are interested in the load and just a few words allows them to get a read on your sincerity. (at least this is what I believe lol). Many times they will negotiate me down as I start higher than I really need to be but always have a bottom number in my head before dialing. Sometimes, they tell me they can't do that and I say, "thats fine, my truck is still currently available if something should change, have a great day!".
Proper communication is everything in this game. Period. You must find what works for you and hone it to an art.
In a nutshell, I think you are REALLY hurting your chances by approaching it the way you are. -
Not only that, but when you listen to them and converse with them you can draw a bead on where they are on the negotiation map..... are they still back in an 0900 frame of mind?? lol....

Exactly! Too much stuff you need to know to just ask a rate and be done with it.

Dont worry or listen to all this bull sheet ,,, IT WAS CHEAP !!!!

Like right now, Friday afternoon..... I've got my truck posted, made my money for the week and can either take the weekend off or answer the phone if it rings..... Dangle a big enough carrot and I'll be there pronto.... brokers and shippers, the balls in your court....
-
I would like to ask, when everyone posts their tucks, is that not telling the brokers how many idle Drivers he has to choose from? If that is the case, the broker now know where he stands and how to play the game.

Believe me i make more money if i post my truck and they call me,,,, than if i call them,,, proved time and time again!
