Shut down at the Oak Grove 70 tonight. Delivering Monday morning just outside of KC, then gonna work my way back to Carolina for hometime Wednesday and Thursday. Almost out of hours from my 70 so I will be able to grab a 34, and what better place to do it, right?

My current company mainly runs I35 East, do Abilene solos get out west or just teams?

Wednesday I delivered to Thomson GA and downtown ATL (what a cluster that was!!!!). Then picked up in Buford GA and delivered my first Pella load into Murray KY on Thursday. Man, it rained cats and dogs after I got backed into the dock. Just stayed on their lot for the night and picked up from there and headed to Pella IA. Nice drive, but it rained cats and dogs part of the way there and the Abilene driver in truck 1245 who was running the same route as me but was about an hour behind me hydroplaned in Hannibal, ran thru the median and into the southbound lanes. Thank heavens no one was coming at the time. He said he had to drive the wrong way on the southbound side for about 2 miles before finally finding a spot to get back into the northbound lanes!!! Did a small bit of damage to the bumper of the truck, but everything else was okay. I would have crapped my pants!!! It was raining so hard when I went thru there, I was doing 45. He said he was doing 55. Um, yeah, if it's raining so hard you need your wipers on high to see, you don't really need to be doing 55, IMO. Anyway, delivered Pella IA yesterday, then got message to BT to Markham IL to the USX yard to pick up a loaded trailer to deliver Monday just outside of Akron OH. Running close on my 70 and have home time for mother's last cateract surgery. Hence the 3 days to deliver. Had a good nights sleep last night, windows open and fan going in the truck. Headed for Markham at about 8 am. Stopped at Iowa 80 since I had never been there before. HUGE place!!!! Looked around for about an hour, spent some money (of course!). Wanted to go into the museum, but decided to save it for the next time. I'm hanging out in the terminal here tonight and will head out in the morning, get about 10 miles from consignee, and shut down. That way I will have a full day to boogie on Monday. The next load will get me to Richmond, if not home. If I get to Richmond, I'll grab something local off the yard and deliver then go home.

Mostly, you will stay east of I35. They run kind of what I like to call "modified regional". You do a lot of loads where you head out, maybe stay out for a day or two, then come back to the yard. Some stay gone longer, but most of us are run in this manner. I think this is the longest I've been out without going back to the yard. I've been out since Tuesday and I won't get back until Tuesday (or Monday evening if I run my tail off!). Usually, I will spend 1 or 2 nights out and then be back. But, as long as I get miles, it doesn't matter to me. And, if you run in/out/in and live local, it gives you more of a chance to do what they call a "by the house" run. Where you can spend a night at home either before or after delivering and then getting your next dispatch.

Well at least now I know who got that load. I was supposed to run one of those but got stuck in Champaign overnight waiting to deliver. BTW, if you get a load of pallets delivering to Kraft in Champaign, they do not live unload pallets.... waited overnight plus 5 hours to get my trailer emptied.
Good luck on your mom's surgery.....RebelChick Thanks this. -
