just speaking for me personally....
Chrome isn't worth $12,000 annually in fuel or an extra $30,000 premium for my equipment. (I'll concede even that the premium is almost a wash at resale)
Eventually, it might happen for me to get something with flash. But to get a truck that's just a tool at this time in my "career" isn't worth it to me.
If it gives you value to purchase chrome and a name badge, go for it. Not everyone sees that value the same. I can't hear the squeaks and rattles in my truck as it is. If I do, I just take my hearing aids out.
What is the attraction with peterbilts

For me I've said it before, I'm all about looks even if it takes a hit to the wallet, but that's me. Some will say its foolish, some will agree with me because they have the same ideas as I do about driving what you want and making decent money vs driving what you need and making a lot more money. For me, I'll do what FITS MY NEEDS. If I need to net $50k a year to live how I want vs netting $80k a year driving a more fuel efficient truck, I'll take the $50k all day long.
I'm a tractor enthusiast, I live, breath, and dream trucking. Me being obsessed with peterbilt 379exhd and 389's is an understatement. My head about exploded when they told me I was getting an older truck, which was the long nose I'm in.
I don't share your thoughts as far as the truck being a "tool", respectively, I see them as much, much more than that -
For me right now, it's a career tool for a means to an end. Until those goals are met, it'll be only a tool. I still haven't done much to the interior on mine and I get asked on occasion when I am going to "move into" my truck.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Personally I'm not a fan of a lot of chrome on the outside, I see lots of trucks that look like a chrome shop threw up on it. I understand wanting flash, but for me I'd rather put my money into the engine and small, subtle cosmetic changes to the rig. -
I prefer the pete over any other brand cause the one in my avatar was the first truck i ever drove when i got my CDL it was 1990 379 with a 425 air to air cat and a 13 speed with 5 inch stacks and MY GOD WOULD THAT THING PULL....u couldn't bog it down i mean yeah it liked fuel but i felt like a lil kid drivin it
between the sound comin out of those stacks shiftin threw the gears it sounded soo nasty haha and looking down that long hood...u felt like a bad ### which the truck was a ######. It was like drivin a hot rod not too mention some have very similar looks of a 30's hot rod and that what made me miss driivn it the most it s was just plan fun and cool. Most of the guys who are into hotrod's or muscle cars and bikes mainly choppers enjoy petes but some guys like the kws and freightshakers too. Dont get me wrong id love too own a 80's w900a extended hood any day with a mtaching 359 with it. But now the truck has been sittin and its really sad too look at. This is when i drove it back in the summer 2007 now this what it looks like 3 years later in 2010.

having owned an alienware, they ain't worth it.....Biggest POS computer I ever bought. I am still using the Dell I bought to replace it 4 years later.
And I HAD To buy a computer with a graphix card in it for AutoCAD.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -

I'm on my 3rd one in a year, the first one was DOA. They replaced it in about 8 days. The second one died after 2 weeks. They replaced it within 8 day, after onsite tech support. That's the downside, the upside, if you have a problem, you talk to tech support in America, not India, and it's a direct line call no phone tree. I would not do it again though.

since I tossed the alienware and went to the Dell, I haven't had any issues. It's been running ever since...
