Depends on what type of haulin you do. Like when I was flatbed I wore my boots when loading or unloading then switch to sneakers when I drove for the next day or so. For Van, sneakers all day long unless it snowed or chaining cause your feet get soaked, chance of slipping and falling is easier in wet or snow days so I wear boots on those days. Reason why is cause my buddy slipped off the top step of a W900 after a ice storm and shattered his knee. Out of work for 6 months. That hurts all around your knee and your checking acct. cause work comp don't pay as much.

I usually just wear Tennis Shoes, I just do Reefer though.
For Flatbed you might want/need Steel Toes. -
I'm surprised that no one has said it's a DOT REGULATION for certain foot ware while driving but wont post the code for all to see...
Yes there is at least one in every crowd.

I wear flip flops while driving and put the boots on when I get to my loading/unloading facility.

Some companies have a footwear policy - Schneider does and at orientation you get a pair for $25. (taken out of your first paycheck) and each anniversary you get a pair for free (mine retailed over $125.)

I would say that depends who you're driving for.I imagine alot of flat bed companies require you have a pair of steel toe boots with you.I have always wore tennis shoes

flip flops in the truck stops. and driving.
boots in safety minded plants.
shoes if boots aren't required.
some places want steel toe. but no one has harrased me as long as i have boots.
i also have black boots. for when i rent a harley for the weekend.
i HAVE stepped in the office a time or two in my flip flops. but once inside the gate or the general property. the shoes get changed. -
End of the day, probably one good pair of steel toe boots that lace to ankle, (my current pair are Wellco Navy Flight Deck in brown), a pair of flip flops for the shower, and what ever you're comfortable driving/walking in. As Cliff Clavin from "Cheers" once said "The key to a good life is a comfortable pair of shoes"
