LEO's aren't dumb. They know lights can go out at any time.

If you logged a VI for at least 15 minutes, and have a DVIR to show them, a minor fault such as a malfunctioning light typically won't result in a infraction. BUT, no VI logged and no DVIR = not only a light infraction but also a log violation.

Also, note the keyword I used......... USUALLY.

I'd like to hear from all the drivers here that got out of having a defect written up because they had it on the DVIR .
If it's on the DVIR you're saying you continued driving with a known defect .

I said the opposite. I said if you noted the light was working on the DVIR. Look at the example I quoted of the light malfunctioning at the last minute.

If you drove and knew about the defect, you deserve the violation.

Nothing out of the ordinary on the I75 scales in Florida. Nothing at all going on at the Valdosta GA scale

Well with all seriousness I will have to admit that I do not mind getting inspected every so often just to have the satisfaction that I am keeping the truck I drive up to par and that he/she might see something under the truck that I did not see or that our so called mechanics did not catch.

A lot of things the government gets involved in that they do not need to be involved with. I personally think that they should have to have a cdl and drive for a year or two just to see what b.s. we go through. That would be interesting.

    enjoy your C S A points.

so i guess it would be in my best interest from now on to start writing on my dvir ALL LIGHTS WORK.

cuz my I R doesnit 't have a spot for that. it just has boxes with one at the end that says ALL SATISFACTORY.

if there's a problem then i mark A for advise. or R for repair. so if there's nothing marked then that means "ALL SATISFACTORY"
