I'll just do the smart thing this year and call in each day of the blitz. They can inspect every truck they desire. I don't care.

Yeah right we had a driver get popped for having a .5 inch pallet tack in a tire.. DoT said it was under inflated.. had 100 lbs of psi in it.. I have never heard of them letting you go without at least a warning.. In fact the guys who did get popped were told by the officer upon producing their dvir.. "I am sorry but it isn't working now. Get it fixed and have a nice day." and given either a warning (mostly) or a ticket..

Doesn't me signing the DVIR, and NOT listing any defects mean that the light was working when I did my inspection? Which would mean by your explination that if i got pull'd into a scale and the light wasn't working, it wouldn't be an issue because it was noted on my DVIR that it WAS working?
Everyone's talking about keeping your nose clean and you'll have nothing to worry about.. Well there's always the, "stuff happens" factor. And from my understanding, not may LEO's take that in to account when handing out infractions. -
Got a Level 1 in PA near Slippery Rock this morning. No violations found. Didn't see DOT or State Troopers anywhere else from South Carolina all the way to Buffalo, but MTO in Ontario are all over the place.

So far all clean on I95 from Jersey to about the middle of NC. Got pulled into a scale in CT yesterday and they just handed me a laminated new HOS reference card.

Translation: If DOT checks, CSA scores and weigh stations and creeper parties were about safety, 4 wheelers would have to comply. The next time you see a 3/4 ton pickup truck pulling a travel trailer, a loaded car dolly, and a boat, and a horse trailer, ask him about any traffic laws, manufacturer specs of his pickup, or if a LEO asked him whether or not he inspected his brakes before he started the trip.

When does DOT ever ask to see a VIR?
Never heard of that before -
I have only seen three.
First year I was getting paid to sit at home while Freightliner took 16 days to fix a clutch!!!
Second I was running shuttles. Through three days I passed two scales 17 times before they finally invited me out back for a truck grope.
This year I got weighed, in a bobtail, when IL was doing their preblitz warmup. Yesterday the loads never had me crossing a scale. Today I took a different expressway and bypassed the westbound 80 which is usually active. Then came back up 355 and they were already done for the day at 2pm.
I don't have a preplan for tomorrow. I am not worried about getting my truck groped and logs checked. But I don't like having to plan an extra hour or half into my schedule for the possibility of getting pulled in.
