So what's the difference between the levels? Is level one more involved than level 3?
-
level 3 is a full blown inspection. level 1 just checks your paperwork. I've only gotten a level 1...
indianaEMT Thanks this. -
You've got it backwards.
LEVEL I
North American Standard Inspection
- An inspection that includes examination of driver's license, medical examiner's certificate and waiver, if applicable, alcohol and drugs, driver's record of duty status as required, hours of service, seat belt, vehicle inspection report, brake system, coupling devices, exhaust system, frame, fuel system, turn signals, brake lamps, tail lamps, head lamps, lamps on projecting loads, safe loading, steering mechanism, suspension, tires, van and open-top trailer bodies, wheels and rims, windshield wipers, emergency exits on buses and HM requirements, as applicable.
LEVEL II
Walk-Around Driver/Vehicle Inspection
- An examination that includes each of the items specified under the North American Standard Inspection. As a minimum, Level II inspections must include examination of: driver's license, medical examinees certificate and waiver, if applicable, alcohol and drugs, driver's record of duty status as required, hours of service, seat belt, vehicle inspection report, brake system, coupling devices, exhaust system, frame, fuel system, turn signals, brake lamps, tail lamps, head lamps, lamps on projecting loads, safe loading, steering mechanism, suspension, tires, van and open-top trailer bodies, wheels and rims, windshield wipers, emergency exits on buses, and HM requirements, as applicable. It is contemplated that the walk-around driver/vehicle inspection will include only those items which can be inspected without physically getting under the vehicle.
LEVEL III
Driver-Only Inspection
- A roadside examination of the driver's license, medical certification and waiver, if applicable, driver's record of duty status as required, hours of service, seat belt, vehicle inspection report, and HM requirements, as applicable.
Mine was a Level 1 full blown which took 49 minutes total. Nicest DOT guy I ever met, told him I had never been inspected before and he showed me everything step by step and all that good stuff. It was quite interesting. Plus, I now have this fancy yellow decal on my windshield that the officer told me made me exempt from inspections for the next 30 days, except for level 3 paperwork inspections. Sweet!Last edited: Jun 6, 2013
jxu417, Blind Dog and indianaEMT Thank this. -
Ohh, sorry! Thought he was talking about Canada...
-
Don't even talk to me about Canada... ROTFL. Spent the last 3 weeks going up there and back, and this last time to Edmonton was a freaking nightmare because no one anywhere knows the Canadian HOS, it's confusing as hell.
-
So, what's your favorite part of Canada, eh?
-
Theres no traffic lol. There are 1 million less people in all of Canada than there are in Texas. Makes for a pleasant and easy drive.
But overall I prefer the Vancouver, BC run because its the longest in mileage, and when I cross the border I'm only going about 25 miles into Canada, so once I get unloaded I can get back across the border instead of being stuck in Expensive-As-Hell-Cell-Phone-Service Land for two days.jxu417 Thanks this. -
Try Toronto or Montreal during rush hour (hours...at least 4)...then tell me there's no traffic in Canada.
Its worse than trying to cross the GW into NYC at 0800 Monday morning! -
Just a thank you to all of you here that have helped me in deciding what FB to go with. After A LOT of research between Maverick, TMC and Lone Star I have chosen Maverick. I talked with a driver today at a Flying J and he was very helpful and very nice he even gave me his personal cell number and said to call if I had any more questions. I am currently a driver trainer and I have already accepted a new student that I pick up in two weeks. So after I am done with him I will be making the move. Approximately 8-9 weeks. Again thank you all.
jxu417 Thanks this.
