    Thanks for the input, larry_minn and Lepton1! I'll think about it once I have ridden with him to see what it is really like. :)

    The Wife now- I have been a passenger with my husband for 2.5 years now. As long as you have a Rider Permit, you're good. You could get your broker's license and make money off of booking loads. But, you'd have to have a laptop and constant wifi and be on the phone a lot! Doing everything for the hubby is enough for me. Plus I make him save a lot of money by not eating out any more. With a fridge, toaster, and a microwave I basically cook just like we were in an apartment. I thought about driving too, but a 14 hour work day is long enough. Plus if one drives all day and one all night, you really don't have any time together anyway!

    FMCSA 392.60...
    Unauthorized persons not to be transported.

    (a) Unless specifically authorized in writing to do so by the motor carrier under whose authority the commercial motor vehicle is being operated, no driver shall transport any person or permit any person to be transported on any commercial motor vehicle other than a bus. When such authorization is issued, it shall state the name of the person to be transported, the points where the transportation is to begin and end, and the date upon which such authority expires.

    No written authorization, however, shall be necessary for the transportation of:
    (1) Employees or other persons assigned to a commercial motor vehicle by a motor carrier;
    (2) Any person transported when aid is being rendered in case of an accident or other emergency;
    (3) An attendant delegated to care for livestock.

    ok it says transported and the definition of it is
    trans·port (tr[IMG]ns-pôrt[IMG], -p[IMG]rt[IMG])tr.v. trans·port·ed, trans·port·ing, trans·ports 1. To carry from one place to another; convey. See Synonyms at convey.

    2. To move to strong emotion; carry away; enrapture. See Synonyms at enrapture.

    3. To send abroad to a penal colony; deport.

    so that implies dropping off at other end if you dont drop passenger off your not transporting now are you ? since im sure where ever you picked said passenger up is the sam eplace you will be dropping passenger off so you never transported them anywhere all you have been tricked and fooled onto believing that it was illegal cause they/you dont know the actual definition of the word... so no note needed and any one that gets a ticket or in trouble for said infraction is against there own laws
    now insurance can charge you more do to liability laws which if a company driver is up to them due to there insurance.
    or as the other synonym is
    con·vey (k[IMG]n-v[IMG][IMG])tr.v. con·veyed, con·vey·ing, con·veys 1. To take or carry from one place to another; transport.
    2. To serve as a medium of transmission for; transmit: wires that convey electricity.
    3. To communicate or make known; impart:

    now copy and print the denition out so the idiot dot can be proving wrong without a doubt

    this law is in the books for non passenger cdls taking people from one place to another either for a fee or not

    Your best bet would be to get your license too! Once you ride with him if you decide you like it you should go for it! Husband/wife team driving is very lucrative! (course you don't have to be married) You guys could make some serious money driving together! How does over $200,000 a year sound to you?

    You are more than welcome to argue that out with a DOT guy.
    I'm not going to.

    For something that takes moments to deal with, there isn't any point.

    some day i will just for the sheer fun of it but would still have the proper paper with me...yes i get joy out of annoying DOT as they have done the same to so many of us in the past and its time for officer unfriendly to have a taste of his own medicine. so i win either way i give him a hard time just like they do to us truckers only to pop out the info he i need to be doing it legally by there idiotic standards and they will have no choice but to let me go

    legalities love em they twist em in there favor so we have to twist em back in our favor learn to stand up for your rights or be forced/tricked into a communistic society!!! failing to stand up for our rights is what has gotten us where we are today.

    Hanadarko Thanks this.
