Can anybody please tell me where I can find a job? I have about 17 years experience driving a truck, two in the last ten years and no one seem to think I can still drive, and they seem to prefer some one who is fresh out of driving school over me. I know I can if someone would just give me a chance, ten years at yellow freight, two year as an owner operator with an end dump, two years reefer hauling groceries and two more years working warehouse dock service and shuttling trailers locally. I have no tickets, no wrecks, no drugs no anything except a clean and very good driving record!

Can some one please explain how truck driving as change so much, that all of the above just doesn't matter.

    Thank you!

Wish I could help you, sir, but I don't know what to say besides you have some great experience and a very good record! Do you have recent employment of any kind?

Lets see what the other drivers here have to say...

Unfortunately thats the way it is now, w/o recent exp your useless to these company's!! You might have to bite the bullet and go to a company and do a refresher and 3-6 months recent exp, and move on from there! Best of luck.

Sounds like you should get your own truck and become an O/O.

Have you kept your CDL current? If so, you can take a 40 hour Refresher and get on with a company like Schneider. If you haven't kept it current, a Refresher Course would not be an option for you. It would do you no good without a current Class A CDL.

Current = unexpired. Sounds like you're in good shape! You've got an unexpired CDL with endorsements.

From my understanding, you can get a medical card as long as you do it before the date that your CDL expires. Examine your license and see what that date is. As long as you're certain that the expiration date hasn't passed, you're good to go through the exam to get your medical (many people don't realize their license has expired till they are asked for it by an Officer,... and then SURPRISE!"). If your CDL lapses, you're in trouble.

So what do you want to haul? Personally, I'm high on life, er uhhh, on hauling tanks, cause for a newb, it pays pretty well, and its different than haulin reefers! Of all the potential avenues of trucking open to you, I can only speak in this very narrow vein. If you were to want to haul tanks for a company like Schneider, especially since you live in the DFW area, I believe you could expect to gross nearly $50k the first yr otr. You would need to get your Hazmat endorsement also, and a passport. (You could study for your Hazmat test at the top of this page where it reads "CDL Practice Tests" Take the full 30 question test over and over and over for maybe 10 hours (I did) and you should pass just fine.) From the sounds of it, Schneider Bulk is in desperate need of drivers! And from what you've already shared with us, you're looking good to get by the background check. You haven't shared about recent employment. Having driven for two of the last 10 years, if I understand you correctly, I believe you'll have to provide an employment record for the past 10 years, with no gaps. There are multiple threads here that discuss this, but you can always ask here about your particular issues regarding past employment gaps, or whatever.

Specifically, Schneider Bulk will be looking for these things: A clean motor vehicle record for 3 years: you pass! No drugs/dui's: you pass! No criminal history: from the sounds of what you wrote, I think you pass! And if you've driven professionally in the past 10 years, they'll be looking for 10 years of employment history with no gaps. If you have employment gaps in the last 10 years, you need to explain what you were doing during those times. I don't know what qualifies as an acceptable gap. As well, check this thread out beginning with post #216: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...orum/163024-tankers-the-schneider-way-22.html All drivers accepted into Schneider Bulk's Orientation may have to be able to lift 60 lbs in this manner, in the pre work screen.

Other drivers can help you with other driving avenues if they choose.

I wish you the best arnoldtrucker55! And, if you're Handle gives your age, you're not very old! I know a driver who got on with Schneider in the last 2 years who was 62. You'll do okay.
