Was pulling a hill yesterday, and the Electric Clutch of the fan kicked on to cool the engine down. All of a sudden, there was a huge bang, and the engine seemed to lose power for a second. Come to find that the rubber shroud material around the radiator ripped, and got sucked into the fan, and broke a blade off, and chipped two others.

Has anyone ever replaced a fan before? This is on a T300, with a 3126 Cat engine. Am I looking at 4 bolts, 1 large bolt? etc

    Thank you,
    John

don't think it's big bolts. but i'd be looking as to WHY the fan hit the shroud.

worn or broken motor mounts. crack in the frame. something is letting the motor move around a little enough for the fan to hit.

seen it happen on dump trucks quite often. but those things take a lot of abuse in the flexing department.

It didn't really hit the shroud. There are rubber "seals" that seal the shroud to the radiator. They are flexible to move with rotation of the engine/cab. The rubber just deteriorated and weakened, and then got sucked in, breaking the fan.

You have to unbolt the fan from the hub, then unbolt the hub from the engine and pull it out to get the fan out, there should be a cut notch in the back of the fan that has to be straight up in order to remove the hub, T300 don't give you much room. hopefully the replacement fan will have the same notches
