Then there's always starter company drivers that try to fly past you on the right then when they are 3/4 past you they come up on a slower vehicle and put their turn signal on and look at you in the mirror expecting you to slow so they can cut in front of you .

Hard braking is defined as a certain rate of deceleration in the qualcomm -- not a brake application pressure.

A perfect example of the good things that can happen when you give yourself space in traffic happened to me a few days ago approaching Denver in the morning. I was allowing plenty of space in front, going a couple miles per hour less than traffic flow, when I noticed that I was all alone between two clusters of vehicles. Ahead of me about 300 yards was a semi sticking his nose in the back end of a jam of cars that covered all three lanes. Behind me was a fast approaching cluster of cars about 200 yards back.

All of a sudden there were brake lights and swerving in front of me, the semi had to brake hard and move left into the next lane.... revealing a spinning .... refrigerator???? ... right in the middle of my lane. By this time the cluster of cars behind me were almost on me, so moving into the lane to the left wasn't a good option. I immediately put on my 4 ways and moved over to the shoulder so the cars behind me could see the refrigerator in the right lane. I passed the refrigerator, the cars behind were able to slow down and avoid the obstacle, and about 400 yards past the frig a pickup truck with an empty U-Haul trailer was on the side of the road and starting to attempt to back up on the shoulder. I was able to successfully weave through this entire scenario without ever using my brakes. I simply slowed down with the jake brake, downshifted, moved over to the shoulder, and back into the right lane.

Plenty of space in front made this a stress free event. Not having a butt fetish I don't feel a great need to be right up on someone's hindquarters.... ;)

This was how it was explained during orientation at Swift.

i think the companies can track any information they want and much more. we have peoplenet and we can actually go to the in-cab performance and track our own performance, but i know the peoplenet is not showing me everthing that the company sees. they can also track engine overspeeds, idle times and percentages[long and short], average throttle pressure, seat belt usage, gps coordinates, average speed and of course the overspeeds and hard braking.
they can even tell how much fuel you have in your tanks and your rate of consumption. kinda reminds me of paroichial school. happy trails

Okay however also there is a recording the truck ecm. Views hard brakes, engine over speed, and over temp. My truck will put a hard brake in the ecm if I apply a certain air pressure to the brakes via the pedal. Wouldn't that make more sense than harassing drivers over rate of deceleration on Qualcomm? I looked at a truck that had over 200 hard brakes logged into the ecm, 8 over speeds and no over temps if you put over 200 hard brakes in a truck in 600k there's something wrong.

This is all I'm getting at it would save a lot of phone calls from dispatchers and driver harassment to just hook the truck up and pull the hard brakes when it goes into the shop. And then they would actually have a reason to chew a driver out. Every time but laying rubber I bout went through the windshield. When I put hard brakes in my truck. I would think that even putting 30lbs to the brakes would be enough to slow the truck down enough to put a hard brake in, and on my dads truck lightly applying the brakes will put 25lbs of air to the brakes. But as you said deals with rate of deceleration I've never actually timed what pressures do what I mainly watch the gauge to watch for brake fade.

Before I back up to the door I always brake hard to the desk to get attention to every pedestrians in the area that im going to move. Lots of drivers speak by phone or to eachother walking on the yeard and may lose thire lives
Is this braking also registered? if yes I can make 200 in 600k miles :biggrin_25522:

Get a dash cam!! That way when they tell you about the hard breaking you can show them what it looked like in front of you.

wow.you sir drove some real cheaply equipped trucks.that makes me wonder if the new trucks these big company hands drive that do not have external sun visors also drive a truck w/o a trailer brake.visor-less trucks are the rage among the mega carriers.

    i know.off topic.sue me.
