Also food stuffs going up to Stevens Point, haven't been there in a while though but that's a pretty big customer for us up there.
-
Oh yeah can't forget the food stuffs. Just took a load of canned stuffs down to Jefferson Georgia. We do a lot with Ortega as well.
When you're running home on weekends, I've found they try to route you into Wisconsin before sending you home. In my case, it seems like its easier for them to find a broker out of there if they don't have something going that way from SCA out of Neenah Wisconsin. -
If anyone knows, how likely is if for me to unload early at Dole in Bessemer City, NC? Have a 3pm appt Monday but will be there Sunday.
-
I think I've been there.. Did you get your load from Ortega?
-
We do pick ups of paper at 48 th place in Chicago off of 55, we also have a drop lot on Halsted in the city. (Otherwise known as how many trailers can you fit on a postage stamp) You will rarely see a HOW truck on 90/94 through the city, everyone I know always take 294 unless its the middle of the night. If you live in WI I believe regional for you would be WI, MN, IA, IL possibly Michigan and Indiana. We have steady customers around Chicago in the burbs.

I just looked them up on google maps. I've been there... I had a load of packaging material I think... Not food. And I can't remember if I had an appointment time. But most of the other trucks I saw there (different companies) were reefers and I was treated different when they found out all I had was cardboard. They called a guy and had me get on door. He unloaded me right then and I was gone in 20 minutes. They have a surprisingly nice driver lounge that nobody was using.

Oh forgot to mention if you live in SE Wisconsin your close to the Russell TA, we do a lot of tcalled loads out of there. We have customers in Gurnee, IL, and Kenosha, WI that would be considered regional loads. I get those sometimes when I go home.
-
Sounds good from what I've read but how much sitting do you guys end up doing waiting on loads/getting loaded? Do the dispatchers let you know what you're doing before you get out from under a load and what not?
-
It depends on the shipper receiver, obviously. Some of us have it better than others, but we all end up waiting at one point or another. And the dispatchers vary as well. The more experienced ones are more predictable and tend to give us preplans in time for the current load to be over. My dispatcher is particularly good at that.
Woldings website says they're 80% drop and hook. I'd say that's only true for the really lucky drivers. At best, I'm 40-50% drop and hook. And about 10% of my loads have me waiting way too long, either because the customer incompetent or my delivery/pickup time is way out of wack.
