Problem is, where are we going to sit? Truck stops are already overcrowded. I agree on the rate increase. The problem is, the government does not want to fix what is really broken in the supply chain; the idea that shippers and receivers have that they can take their sweet time loading and unloading and expect us to make up the slack on the road. It amazes me that companies fine carriers $250.00 plus if we are late for an appointment yet companies hold us for hours with no penalty. If the government was really concerned about highway safety they would establish a rule that stated all trucks must be loaded or unloaded within 2 hours of arrival or the company will be fined $250.00/hour until the truck is unloaded and $100.00 or that will be paid to the driver. The government would have to instigate it as carriers are too afraid of losing customers to back their drivers with a plan like that. But I guess this is a discussion for a different thread.

That is it in a nut shell..And the Carriers Expect the ''drivers'' to just accept all this crap because the Carrier accepted all this crap...

The buck has to STOP SOMEWHERE.This is one of the ''perks'' to being an O/O.The sad part it usually stops with me..I have a list of ''questions'' about a potential load.If it does not fit my criteria,i move on..I am 90% very Picky and i am not in Desperation and Neediness...

This is what the ''real'' issue is here..Neediness,Greed,Fear and Desperation to the all-mighty $$$$$..If O/O's removed the Fear,Greed,Neediness and Desperation, they can have a nice life hauling good light money loads. Not to mention going wherever there hearts desire...

Furthermore they can leave those ''loads'' on the docks when they are not ready. If i get there and load is gonna be hours and hours, then i burn out and find another.Or i am on the phone getting detention time and it will be in writing via e-mail...

I have a policy that I make clear, I allow two hours from check in to check out. If I am delayed beyond two hours at the shipper, I automatically delay my arrival time at the other end by the amount of time I was delayed at the shipper. I AM NOT going to make up the slack for a shipper who cannot load on time. Too many drivers push the limits to make up for sloppy shippers and that is where the safety problems come from.

Did you cover that roll of cable short haul. I probably would have done it if I wasn't so far away just to get my first load in with OZR :biggrin_25514:

Being detained by a shipper is not the receivers fault. If the load is JIT that's one thing, but if there is plenty of time to deliver why punish the receiver & possibly put yourself in a further delay because you didn't make on time delivery? Makes no sense, therefore BS truck stop counter talk.
