Hands down the best auto I've driven, argueably the best auto on the market today. You should try this gearbox with a retarder and Adaptive cruise control, unbelievable!

I have not seen a retarder since I left Germany in 1993. Use to drive a 2648 with a Voith retarder back home. It will take another 30 years for this part of the world to catch on to retarders.

I have not had the chance to drive an auto, believe there are no autos at my company.
-
Drove one once and didnt like it. I would never buy one would want to know the expence of repairs
-
autos are always more expensive, of course if your company has rookies who would grind a lot that might average out on cost

I drove a International 9400 day cab (like driving a combine down the road) with an automatic at Tango and hated every time I got stuck with it. Pain in the ### to back up. It was a lot like trying to get a train moving where you had to throttle it up a good deal to get it moving then back off before you got to moving to fast. Nothing like a car when its got 30-40k lbs of scrap paper in the box. Didn't pull worth a #### and the Cat motor it was married to made it drink fuel like it was going outta style because Cats suck on MPG as it is and then have a tranny that shifts at much higher RPMs than you would with a manual to help conserve on fuel. Never ever ever EVER will I drive another one. Its either a straight 10 or a 13 for me.

Until 2 months ago when I was issued my new company tractor I have never driven an automatic
we have the Eaton Fuller Ultrashift. No clutch pedal. With a manual option. I pull a liquid tank.
I just knew I was gonna hate it. Well once I got over trying to clutch and reaching for a shifter that isn't there. Lol. I can't believe how sweet this thing is. Much more relaxed driving.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
Ah get yourself an 18 and you'll never drive anything but a 13 or 18. Those extra 5 in the basement help at times...specially coming out of low if you ever have to use it.
This is a thread for the lazy people who would rather drink coffee and watch scenery than shift gears. To each their own I'll keep my fuller 18 and 3 pedals besides driving an auto has to get boring after a while with absolutely nothing to do. I can see a lot of drivers keeping their right hand occupied with one of them paddles with the ball on elastic string like we used to have...#### I feel old now. God forbid we start talking about catching the ball in the cup. -
I have only drove one once, and when I would get ready to grab for the stick, or get ready to use the clutch and there was nothing there lol I don't know how many times I did that. I havn't drove enough of them to help you, but I can say this I would def not want to pay to get them worked on. Everything is expensive, but them autos look out!!!!

REALLY depends on what you drove and how it was speced, ANY truck that isn't speced correctly for the job at hand is a PITA. They have come a long way in a couple of years.
Absolutely untrue, since going all auto we have yet to replace a ujoint or driveline, have NOT had to get into a power divider, and I am seeing OVER 800,000 on a clutch.
I have driven them all, and we do a LOT of big city and residential deliveries, it is just one less thing the driver has to think about while dodging cars when looking for that address to drop at. How do you like your Power steering, air conditioning, power windows?
Bottom line is, I am NOT going to tell someone else what they should or shouldn't drive, but it seems that when it comes to auto's there is a lot of misinformation out there.
Redbone311, vikingswen, Elroythekid and 2 others Thank this.
