How can I tell if I have the new higher flow primary filter head?

Also, I noticed that CAT says to install filters dry, never fill with fuel first. Whenever I've noticed, the shop always fills with fuel first. Do they use filtered fuel?

It will have a longer nipple on it with a unthreaded part about 1/2 inch long. only diff i have really seen is u dont have to use the o ring supplied with the primary fitler with high flow because longer nipple will seal in the filter head itself with o ring built in the filter. cat says they prefer u use the primer pump to fill filters also a bolt on top of sec filter housing is loosened to release air from system. some will have a filter mounted on their tanks for dispensing fuel.

I had the standard 90gph head then upgraded to the 120gph head with the cat filter. Never was happy with the upgrade. So a few months ago went to this Racor head its a 250gph head with 1.25 inch center threads. The filter is Racor S3238 10 micron 150GPH. Very happy with this set up. The sender coming out of the top is fuel temp, the other sender is fuel filter restriction.

Thanks Mr. Haney. On my last truck I had the fuel preporator. I like this setup the best. It's big, very little restriction, I have a fuel temp gauge, restriction gauge and fuel pressure gauge. Very happy 6NZ

mtoo, how many miles can you put on that Racor before it's time to change it? I used to get up to 70K miles on my big filter before the ULSD and bio crap but lately I'm lucky to get 30K before the big one gets clogged or the F/W separator gets jammed up with trash. I fuel at T/A & Petro. I still run an original Fuel Prep on my 3406C. It's nice knowing exactly what's happening with the filters. I have hydraulic gauges at the FP big filter, at the transfer pump and at the CAT OEM filter. Fuel temp would be nice but my dash has no more available real estate.

Can't say how many miles yet. Put it on in Jan and not working that hard. After all it is Jan and Feb. Right now I have 13858 miles on it and restriction is same as day one.

On my FP I put a combination vacuum / pressure gauge. The FP was on a switch, I could shut it off and check the restriction of the W/S and fuel lines.

Can't ever have to much info.
