Hello,
Since birth I have been without hearing in one ear with near perfect hearing in my good ear. I'm looking at obtaining my AZ CDL but have heard that hearing issues can be a dis-qualifier for the MTO medical test. Does anyone know the specifics of the hearing requirements from the HTA?
Question about hearing

If you can pass the whisper test you should be alright. I have almost the same issue.

Don't tell them. I don't even remember being tested specifically for it. I think the test consisted of being able to hold a conversation with the doctor who does the physical. It's not like he is going to be quietly whispering to you. Remember, any noise that would be required to be heard is going to have to be louder than the engine running or road noise. They couldn't expect anyone to hear a whisper over that.
The tests may be different for US drivers, but I am also from Ontario and that was my experience. When you get inspected in the US the DOT officer will probably ask for your medical card, then just kindly remind him in Ontario, they won't give you a license unless you pass the medical. They usually quickly do the "oh yeah sorry."TheScapegoat Thanks this. -
Great thanks. I have a couple ride along demo days for this week to set on a school. Got my appointment for the medical with my DR next week.

I don't remember them testing my hearing. They concentrated more on my eyesight. Oh, at my last company, we had a few hearing impaired drivers who were legally deaf, and needed sign language. So you should not have any trouble.

I don't remember getting my hearing tested for my class 1.
I have had it tested about 3 times this year for different employers or site access. Don't know if you be DQ'd for partial though.
