You never NEEDED 2 restarts in a week . Even if you worked 5 14 hour days in a row that would be 70 hours . Take a day and a half restart and you're good for at least 5 days .

I've usually tried to get a reset on the weekends and for the last month I've tried to log by the new rules so I could get used to them. Because of the 2 x 1-5 AM rule, I've concluded that taking a reset on Saturdays would be better than Sundays because I rarely deliver or pick up on the weekends but often need to be on the road early on Monday and being based on Pacific Time, I could not be on the road until 8 AM Eastern if I wanted a reset.

So, I'm taking this weekend's reset on the 29th even though I'm not quite at my destination and it will "shorten" what I can do next week.

These...people...(and I use the term haltingly) are out of their minds! When they came up with this HOS "joke"...were they thinking? Don't they realize that they are going to destroy this industry? I mean...think about it. Dispatchers, load planners are going to have #### fits over covering loads and finding relay/re-power drivers when all the ones out OTR are being forced into this crazy reset bullcrap!
I don't have a problem with the 30 minute break after 8 hrs, but the 1am-5am previsions? Some drivers prefer running at night because it's cooler, less traffic...well, you all know. The whole thing is crazy...The powers to be (who have never driven a truck) are going to turn us into all regional, LTL, inter-modal drones. We will be forced into 500 mile radius or teams. I remember years back at the truck show @ Iowa 80 before Mr. Schneider died. He said that not in his lifetime, but in his childrens lifetime, trucking will be reduced to less than 10 major companies split into the main divisions, i.e., reefer, flat-bed, dry van. I think he will be proven right. We will all be driving slower trucks(English Lauries) and smaller. The 48 states driver will no longer exist. And the ability to be hired as a solo driver will go away. We will be making less money compared to standard of living. Our industry is doomed to become nationalized. Start looking for more foreign drivers to take our places. it's not their fault...it's ours.
FOR LETTING THEM GET AWAY WITH IT.

The 34 hour "reset" is actually a relatively new concept. The reset is an "option." We are still governed by the 70 hour 8 day rule. You dont have to get a 34 hour reset at all as long as you keep track of your recap hours and dont "drive" past the 70 hours in 8 day rule you will be fine.
