    Why is it that some companies won't allow you to have a passenger unless it is a spouse or a child? I know I have heard it is because of the insurance. Ok why don't they get an insurance company to where their drivers can have passengers?
    To me that is a big turn off is a company that doesn't allow passengers. I mean a person might want a passenger every now and then. Well I don't have a spouse or a kid. I could put a mannican in the passenger seat but then it can't have a conversation with me.
    Here is the thing I am very interested in Maverick but being as I don't have a child or spouse I would not be allowed a passenger. However a smaller company in Memphis that goes by the name of BTC flat and has about 500 trucks or so allows passengers. I am considering BTC Flat over Maverick just because of this one simple reason.
    Sorry for the long winded thread but is this a good reason to pick one company over another??

    Obviously the additional cost of insurance is not worth allowing passengers to some companies.

    Passengers=possible distractions=busted up trucks

    With flats there are some places we go where they only allow one person to come into the loading area. Even if it is a trainer/trainee truck the trainee has to be dropped off at a truck stop so the truck can enter to load or del.

    its not easy finding an insurance company that will allow passengers, even if you are willing to pay more. I was checking it out when shopping around for insurance. I dont know about OOIDA, they would not cover us because we will haul asphalt. I thought that was odd. I think many insurance companies have their odd things that they will not deal with, but most dont want passengers.
    One insurance company told me it is because of the liability of that passenger being injured in an accident. Just another person that can come after them for more money, that it had nothing to do with that passenger causing an accident. She also told me that if you do take a passenger they will be covered in an accident, however your policy will be cancelled after that.

    That would seem to me to be a major reason to not allow passengers.
