Tools for a newbie??

Zip ties - Large ones. Some trailers that you pick up will have glad hands that may be angled just right to where when you turn your truck in one direction, the stupid things come loose. Grabbing a couple of zip ties and clamping them down on it will prevent that from happening.

For anyone with Swift, the MS Carrier trailors are the ones that I have noticed do this most commonly. They point straight out from the trailor, and the hangers for the air lines pull up just right on the lines to pull them apart.

 

I use Bible gateway a lot too. they have so many different versions. I'm new here but im glad to see so many of you carry Bibles.

Do trucks have a toolbox mounted on them? Where do you keep all this stuff?

 

For the most part no, there will be no mounted toolbox's mounted on the truck but....you should have more than enough room to store a couple in the side boxes or sleeper if you don't have too much other crap in there.

And don't forget a good knife! I like one with at least a partially serrated blade.
You can use it and the zip lock ties to re attach a partially torn mud flap.
Also a large pair of channel locks. These are useful if you get glad hands that are a little loose and your air lines keep popping off. You can bend the lip on the trailer glad hand slightly, so, they are snug.

And my most important item... Wet Ones and Lysol!!!
Lysol is great for Public showers and toilets.
The Wet Ones are great for washing your hands and will even remove 5th wheel grease!

 

You should try using WD-40 on those greasy hands. Pulls it right off.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Duct Tape yet. I mean, you've got zip ties...

 

I agree with this list. Add water proof gloves to keep the disel off your hand when you fuel and a small, cheap, CB. A good rechargable flashlight. For the cutters, go to e-bay and get a small set of bolt cutters. I found an 14" pair for $11 that does all that I need.

 

Get the company to get u radiator hose alt belts, fan belts, clamps oil coolant. A 3/4rachet with all the sockets gloves ( men don't use gloves) hammer, crowbar, wire, zip ties, straps, load locks, extra light bulbs, blinkers for trailer and tractor, I can go on and on these are all the things I carry and you would be surprised how much everything comes in handy

 

10-4 on the belts and hoses. You would be surprised at how many times a vendor doesn't have a belt in the middle of the night, and, will tell you you have to wait till morning.
