They used low cabovers out on the west coast back in the day. Up until the mid '90's. I don't know why some got away from them. Hadley had them up until the late 80's and went to the Ford 9000 completely.

Drivers got too fat to climb in and out of them! At least that's my excuse. -
I guess I'm curious, I always though that besides the weight the dual tandem setup on stingers was to "balance" if you will the truck/trailer combination. I think those trucks must be pretty weight equalized or I could see a major porpoising issue with a single axle on those tractors?Jrdude5 and Speedloader Thank this. -
Kansas, the posted picture is off older units.
Open the link and you will see the newer unit.
Has a small pusher in front off the drive.
Reason for this is that as cars have gotten heavier over time(all those gadgets make even a small car heavy),the carhaulers started getting fines for being overweight on the drive.KANSAS TRANSIT, Jrdude5 and Speedloader Thank this. -

I have. I've even driven one before. It was an older KW. Formally an Interstater owned by a broker who was signed on with a moving (bedbuggers) outfit. My buddy bought it to haul his race cars and bikes and to live in at the tracks on the weekends. He kept it for a year but in the end it was to much of a pain in the rump for all those little county tracks parking wise. It was comfy, just to big and cumbersome.

best i remember about the cabovers disappearing was it had something to do with deregulating the industry.
