Nobody is going to pay $.51, not over 5 miles. Swift starts you low, moves you up quickly. I left them in March after a year and a half, was up to $.31/mile, started with another 48 OTR for $.37, which would have taken another 4 1/2 years to achieve with Swift. I liked driving for them, most of the time. Good miles, pay always on time and to the penny, just not enough of it. They use that HHG which I hate. I was giving back about 5-7% every month, occasionally more, in free miles I drove for nothing. Out of control. They paid back my tuition for the CDL refresher school at $150/month, they have a $.04/mile safety bonus (very strong). Swift doesn't give anything away, but they reward the drivers who take care of business. I wouldn't be afraid to go with Swift. My experience was overall very professional. If you want a job to get going, and miles to gain experience, take a look. Remember this: a lot of the negativity you'll hear here ( :) ) is from drivers who never drove for Swift, 2nd hand or worse hearsay. I drove for them, out of Albuquerque; Swift gave me a chance to get back in the business. I don't have anything bad to say about them. Oh - I think you'll have to suck it up and ride with a "mentor" for a bit. No joy there, just pay your dues, get your truck, don't look back.

I agree, they are a very good starter company. I had a great trainer (i got lucky) who is now a good buddy of mine and I still ask him advice on tough calls/ situations. You're NOT gonna make a ton of money when you start out, DEAL WITH IT for one year, then move on. Trucking is NOT EASY, believe me most newbies run for the hills once they realize it involves real HARD WORK, PLANNING & a true commitment to learning all that is Trucking. I'm glad i went with Swift & yes, I'm no longer there as I like making more per mile BUT, I had to start somewhere! Get your Year in, then look elsewhere. I will NOT work locally, WAY TOO MUCH B.S. involved for less pay. Great example is JB Hunt, promise you 0.52/mile BUT, you get to drive LOCALLY in traffic and drive less than 100 miles daily. I don't work for charity, I drove more miles OTR in one day for Swift than I did all week at Good Old JB C - unt!

Smokin' bowls ! Don 't worry about that overly much, maybe #19 on your list. I think they do, but it's easy to find out: 30sec of surfing their site should do it. If you get good at driving, backing, and being on time (don't forget to be nice to the customers no matter how much of your 14 hour clock they use. Oh, sorry, I meanyour 13 1/2 hour clock as of today) the referrals will fall into place. Or, if you know more smokers, tell them about it. Tell them they'll have to go straight, as well. Heavy, serious testing, severe penalties for testing unclean.

Smokin in my name has nothing to do with drugs or cigarettes. But thanks for your advice!
